Melbourne Dentist Fees Guide, Payment Policy and Warranty

Searching for information about the cost of dentistry online or by phone shopping can force you to wade through some pretty vague information.
Yes, there are many factors and variables that will influence how much your dental treatment will cost.
Whatever fees you gather over the phone or email is just only indicative. And no, most dentists cannot estimate the cost of your treatment without first meeting with you and evaluating your oral health.
As in our practice, part of the consultation process involves understanding your budgetary concerns to align your dental or smile makeover cost with your needs.

Any treatment fees provided by a dentist is always patient-specific, based on individual patient requirements as a result of the examination and diagnosis made by the dentist. Oral health needs vary greatly between individuals and therefore, there is no average treatment.

TREATMENT QUOTATIONS

For Extensive & Complex  Cosmetic and Full Mouth Reconstructions and General dental treatment

Patient can get an initial quotation from the clinic if you provides X-rays, dental reports or other sufficient information. On major cosmetic and general works, our practice make an attempt provide a written quotation after an overall status assessment for all our patients.
After the status assessment and consultation, the patient will receive a final written quotation, which includes a list of all cost items related to the dental treatment. If the patient accepts the final quotation, the patient has to sign it. One copy stays with the patient, the other with the clinic. Our quotation looks like an invoice, it is a cost calculation. It lists all cost items, quantities, unit prices and sum prices with disclaimer and terms and conditions at the back of the page.
Quotation for Single dental works are done mostly verbally on an implied consent of the patient, unless the patient requested a written quote. Extended written treatment quotations may incur fees based on your individual needs and the time it will take us to accomplish the written treatment estimate or Quotation.
We make an effort that the estimate on all dental procedures we have provided be as accurately as possible. Sometimes, presenting conditions encountered when the teeth are actually treated may require a change in treatment plan and fees. Treatment could be more or less extensive than originally determined. If a change occurs, we will informed you immediately and the treatment will not proceed without your approval. In certain unforeseen extensive treatment or cases, you will be referred to a specialist and any associated specialist fees is at your own expense or is not included on our fees that you have been quoted or paid.

Please take a note on the inclusion and exclusion coverage of any given written treatment fees.
A quote for dental treatment is valid for 30 days from the date of examination and treatment planning, after which time we reserve the right to revise any fee quoted.

Patients with dental insurance, once the insurance payment is received, will be immediately responsible for what is not covered
Tax Deductible Treatment
If the total fees for your dental treatment for a given financial year exceeds a minimum threshold amount (presently $1500), you may be able to claim a rebate on your income tax return for a percentage of that amount, less any rebate from a health insurer. Please consult your accountant on the update information on this issues. OUR 3 YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY

OUR 3 YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY

IMPLIED TERMS & WARRANTIES – 3 YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY

The Warranty refers to the entire work done, i.e. all materials, labour work/our own services and treatment EXCEPT LAB RELATED FEES. It is only valid for procedures that we’ve done in our clinic. Costs arising from work done in other dental offices are not covered under our warranty. The warranty of any of our treatment is only valid if our dentist completes the full work. If a problem arises during the 3 years warranty period, the patient has to contact the clinic as soon as the problem arises.

  1.  All warranties and conditions expressed or implied by statute, common law, equity, trade, custom or usage or otherwise howsoever are to the extent permitted by law expressly excluded from the Sales Contract. The Patient acknowledges that neither the Company nor any person purporting to act on its behalf has made any representation or given any promise or undertaking which is not expressly set out in the Sales Contract whether as to the fitness of the Services for any particular purpose or any other matter.
  2.  The Patient acknowledges that without relying upon the skill or judgement of the Zenaidy Castro P/L or any person purporting to act on its behalf it has determined that the Services conforming to the contract description will be fit for its purposes. Any description of the Services and/or Goods used in the Sales Contract is for identification only and shall not constitute a contract of sale by description. The provisions of this clause 4 shall not apply insofar as their application is prevented by the Trade Practices Act 1974 as amended or any other State and Territory laws.
    3.  Subject to the terms of the Supply Contract, the Company offers certain limited dental warranties in relation to the Services and/or Goods it provides to the Patient. The Patient acknowledges that the long-term success of any dental treatment provided by the Company corresponds directly to the Patient’s home care, regular dental check-up and professional cleanings. As a pre-condition to the operation of any limited warranty provided by the Company, the Patient agrees that:
  3. a) Following the completion of treatment, a Patient will attend a minimum of two (2) examinations and scale and clean in each year in our office, and has followed the recommended preventative dental treatments and maintenance program as recommended by the Company. It remains the Patient’s responsibility to contact the Company to make an appointment, and attend the six-monthly exam and prophylaxis failing which the limited warranty will be forfeited. It remains a fundamental condition for the operation of any limited warranty under the Sales Contract that the Patient maintains professional cleanings and check up/exams at the Company’s office as often as is recommend by the Company (usually 2-4 times a year).

TAKE NOTE: NON-ATTENDANCE OF 6 MONTHLY CHECK-UP AND HYGIENE APPOINTMENT IN OUR OFFICE WILL MAKE THIS WARRANTY VOID

  1. b) A bite splint is worn at night as recommended by the Company in cases where the dentist detects a history of grinding and/or clenching.
  2. c) There is no outstanding balance on the Patient’s account or monies owing to the Company unless otherwise agreed to by the parties in writing.
  3. The Company is confident of the durability of the treatment it prescribes for its Patients.
    a) Primary to a Patient’s long term success is spending a few minutes a day on home care including but not limited to: brushing, flossing, using fluoride and prescribed products.
    b) A secondary factor is regular professional examinations, cleanings, x-ray films and fluoride treatments ( at 2-6 month intervals depending on the Patient’s condition). This warranty does not cover accidents that cause damage to the teeth or dental prosthesis. This limited warranty is only between the patient and the Company and does not include any agreements or contractual terms with insurance companies or any third parties. They will be billed in full. Only that amount of out-of-pocket expense paid by the patient will be credited toward the fee for replacement service.
  4.  Teeth whitening is not included or covered by the Company’s limited warranty under this clause or under the Supply Contract due to its high unpredictability.

6 Restorative dental treatments as provided by the Company are permanent and recommended as the most appropriate method of dental treatment at the time of the Patient’s consultation. If for any reasons including financial reasons the Patient is not able to have the recommended treatment as presented by the Company and opts for a treatment regime which is assessed by the Company in its absolute discretion as less than optimal including but not limited to a short-term fix, patchwork or any other temporary measures until definitive treatment is provided then any limited warranties provided by the Company under any Sales Contract will not take effect.

  1.  In cases where it is difficult for the Company to predict the likely future outcome or diagnosis at that time, that a Patient’s tooth will either most likely (or on a 50/50 chance) require a root canal treatment, any future root canal treatment is not covered by the Company’s limited warranty.
  2.  If a Patient’s current dental treatment fails and requires replacement or repair and consequently different dental materials, techniques or treatment due to clinical failure (ie failure not covered by the Company’s limited warranty) and is deemed to be necessary as advised by the Company acting in its sole discretion, then only the difference in treatment fee will be due and payable by the Patient.
  3.  Failure by the Patient to have continuing care visits including x-ray and exams as recommended by Company as above voids any and all limited warranties. It remains at all times the Patient’s responsibility to contact the Company to make an appointment, and attend the six-monthly exam and prophylaxis.

Treatments Under Limited Warranty
PORCELAIN VENEERS, CROWNS, BRIDGES, INLAYS AND ONLAYS

  1. a) The Company gives a limited warranty on these procedures for a maximum period of three (3) years. The Zenaidy Castro P/L agrees to recement INTACT debonded Veneers due to normal use at no additional charge for our service to the Patient during this 3-year period EXCEPT LAB RELATED FEES.

RECEMENTATION WARRANTY OF NEWLY CEMENTED PORCELAIN VENEERS:

  1. If the newly cemented Veneers come off 1 week after the cementation appointment, we will recement it for free if your veneer is intact and not broken – we will absorb all the lab fees.
  2. If your newly cemented INTACT, unbroken Veneers come off 1 month after the cementation appointment, we will recement for free. Our warranty is for our service, except for lab fees. In this intances, there will be a small charge of $40 per veneer to cover the lab fees of cleaning and preparing your debonded Veneers.
  3. If your newly cemented Veneers came off but is BROKEN, or damaged, or got lost, we can’t recement this veneer. Our service of recementing and anything related to redoing for you a veneer is FREE, but there will be a charge to cover the lab fees of redoing a new veneer -which may range from $150-300 per veneer.

  1. b) This warranty does not operate in the following circumstances:
  1. i) The crown, veneer or bridge has been damaged by trauma, accidents and excessive force by severe grinding and clenching of the teeth that could also break normal healthy teeth;
  2. ii) Neglect such as new decay, misuse, abuse, accidents or additional dental treatment done elsewhere.
  3. c) Failure of the tooth underneath the crown or onset of root infection is not covered by the warranty.
  4. d) Root fillings and non standard treatments are not covered by the operation of this clause.
  5. e) The Company cannot predict, if and/or when gum or nerve treatments may be required on the covered tooth. If needed, they will require payment of additional fees by the Patient. If a veneered or onlayed tooth is damaged or decayed to the extent that a crown is necessary, the full fee originally paid for the veneer or onlay will be applied by the Company in payment towards the crown and the Patient will only be liable for payment of the difference.

The prosthetic treatment provided is warranted for replacement at no cost should a failure occur under the following conditions.

  • Failure constitutes technical and construction faults only and does not include recurrent decay due to poor patient oral hygiene; overload failure due to patient non-compliance in wearing a prescribed splint for grinding habits (if applicable);
  • failure due to accident or injury;
  • failure due to wilful or habitual damage (eg. nail biting);
  • failure due to a change in the patient’s perception of the aesthetics of the final case after completion of treatment or
  • failure due to loss or damage whether or not due to negligence on the patient’s behalf.
  • Other dental professionals may be involved in the provision of services in complex treatment plans.
  • Failure of treatments performed by other practitioners is not warranted.

The limited warranty period is for 3 years from the date of initial placement of the prosthesis, and is only valid if the patient returns for annual review appointment or as prescribed on your individual cases. These appointments are to review and check the prosthesis only and may include its cleaning, however they are not a substitute for regular recall examination and tooth cleaning services. Whilst the warranted period extends to 3 years, this does not mean that your prosthesis will not last longer if well maintained. In extreme rehabilitative or reconstructive cases, the dentition may be so compromised that even complicated, high quality prostheses may have a guarded or poor long-term prognosis. In such cases a normal warranty cannot be provided. If a normal warranty cannot be applied, it will be indicated in your treatment plan letter.

The following events are not covered in general by the Company’s three year limited warranty:

  1. a) Failure or repairs resulting from a Force Majeure Event, neglect, abuse, failure of supportive tooth or tissue structures, wilful damage to the prosthetics, improper adjustments or improper dental hygiene.
  2. b) Failure to follow periodic (minimum 6 months or 3-6-9-12 months) dental visit as prescribed by the Company for professional exam, X-rays and cleaning.
  3. c) Failure to complete necessary dental treatments as prescribed by the Company. The Company is not liable or responsible for the treatment or dental work done by any other dentists and there remains no obligation on the Company to rectify other dentist’s work.
  4. d) Any lab related fees incur in the process of cleaning up debonded Veneers or redoing a broken or broken Veneers
  5. e) The Company cannot give a 100% foreseeable prognosis if and/or when gum or nerve treatments may be required on a covered tooth. If needed by a Patient such additional Services will require payment by the Patient of additional fees. Unless otherwise advised all recommended dental treatment(s) by the Company will be performed by Dr. Zenaidy Castro (with the exception of specialist treatments specifically recommended elsewhere).

DOES MY HEALTH INSURANCE COVER COSMETIC DENTISTRY TREATMENT?
VIEW

DOES MY HEALTH INSURANCE COVER COSMETIC DENTISTRY TREATMENT?

Australian insurance companies, such as HBF, HCF, BUPA and Medibank usually cover Cosmetic Dentistry procedures such as Porcelain Crown, Bridges or Veneer under the category of ‘major dental’.

Major dental is typically covered under the policies of higher extras cover which generally covers surgery and emergency treatment. Major dental typically includes complex and expensive procedures like braces, crowns, wisdom teeth removal, bridges and root canals. You can also receive cover for orthodontic and endodontic works.

How much does my health fund pay?

Each health fund pays a different rebate amount, depending on their rules for each level of cover. For an approximate rebate amount, ask your health fund what the maximum rebate amount for your “major dental” category is.

At the practice, once you have been assessed, you will be provided with an itemised treatment plan. You can give this plan and the item numbers to your health fund. They will then be able to provide you with a precise, detailed quote.

WOULD MEDICARE COVER MY DENTAL FEES?
VIEW

WOULD MEDICARE COVER MY DENTAL FEES?

The Australian Government does not cover the costs of most dental services in the way it does with other health services. Most dental costs are paid for by patients.

Medicare does, however, pay for some essential dental services for some children and adults who are eligible.

Child Dental Benefits Schedule: This pays $1,000 over 2 calendar years for children aged 2 to 17 for basic dental services, including dental examinations, x-rays, cleaning, sealing cracked teeth, fillings, root canals and extractions. It does not cover orthodontic or cosmetic dental work or any dental care provided in hospital.

Most of the services are bulk billed, so you don’t pay anything. The payments are only available to families who are already receiving other government benefits. To see if your child is eligible, visit the Department of Human Services website.

Public dental services: The states and territories provide public dental services both for children and adults. These may include emergency dental services or referrals to specialist services like orthodontics in hospital. Adults must generally have a Health Care Card or Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card to be eligible, although the rules vary depending on where you live.

Each state and territory offers different services and you may have to wait up to a year or more to see a dentist.

To find out what’s available where you live, visit your state or territory health department website:

FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE THE COST OF COSMETIC DENTISTRY IN MELBOURNE

FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE THE COST OF COSMETIC DENTISTRY IN MELBOURNE

Today a healthy and beautiful smile is more important than ever, which is why many people are turning to cosmetic dentistry. While many people wish to perfect their smile, sometimes the cost of this treatment can be a big worry. The great news is that reasonably priced options are available today and payment options also make it easier than ever to enjoy a great smile. If you’re worried about cosmetic dentistry prices, here is a closer look at.

Many different factors can influence what you pay to have cosmetic dentistry procedures completed. One big factor happens to be the type of treatment that you choose. If the treatment needed is limited, the price will be fairly low. However, if more extensive treatment is needed, cosmetic dentistry prices can quickly increase based upon the specific treatment needed.

When people choose to have cosmetic procedures done on their teeth, they often forget to figure in the laboratory charges when figuring the approximate cost of treatment. Certain procedures may require some work in a laboratory, which will result in charges from the laboratory. While some dentists include this amount in the total cost, sometimes these charges may be separate. If you’re trying to figure out the overall cost of your cosmetic treatment, don’t forget about possible laboratory charges.

In some cases, additional surgery may be needed for those undergoing cosmetic dentistry procedures. For example, those who decide on dental implants may require additional surgery to get the implant site prepared. Preoperative and postoperative surgical procedures are sometimes needed and can increase the overall cost of the cosmetic treatment needed.

Now that you understand some of the factors that can affect cosmetic dentistry costs you may be wondering how much certain procedures will cost you. While the end cost can vary, here is a look at the estimated cost for certain procedures.

Dentistry not ‘black and white’.

Unfortunately in dentistry, more than in medicine, things are not absolutely black and white. So there are a lot of shades of grey and it depends very much on the dentist’s personal experience, expertise and training.”

The patient’s own level of expectations and perfectionism, medical and dental history, oral hygiene status as well as their likelihood to follow a treatment plan can also influence the dentist’s decisions.

Dentist are not basically trying to tell you something different to make more money, but they have different ideas, different trainings. And they see things differently. And it’s extremely variable.

If you want to know the cost of a smile makeover, it makes sense to go to the dentists who know how to do it correctly and who can actually create a beautiful smile. Why get a smile makeover in the first place if the result is going to be a mediocre smile?

WHERE CAN I GET MONEY FOR DENTAL WORK?

WHERE CAN I GET MONEY FOR DENTAL WORK?

Smart Tips to Finance Expensive Dental Work

Avoiding the dentist is tempting, especially because having a cavity filled or a tooth pulled is not anyone’s idea of fun. But there’s another reason why people would prefer to avoid the dentist: Dental work isn’t cheap.

The cost of dental care per person has increased. And once you have a family, you might have to pay for multiple dental procedures each year, which can really add up.

While the costs are a nuisance, skipping the dentist can put your health at risk. Untreated cavities are a pain (literally), and dental problems potentially can also lead to more serious health issues, like heart problems. Dental visits are just as important as visits to your physician—you don’t want to put them off for too long.

While the costs are a nuisance, skipping the dentist can put your health at risk.

Because most medical plans don’t include dental work, dental insurance is often sold separately. And even if you have dental insurance, there’s no guarantee that it will cover the entire cost of an expensive procedure.

Fortunately, there are a few ways for you to pay for dental work if it isn’t covered by your insurance. Let’s take a look at what dental work your medical insurance might cover, payment plans for dental work, and dental loans.

USING INSURANCE FOR DENTAL WORK

Your medical insurance provider may only offer coverage for dental work it deems “medically necessary.” And what is medically necessary varies from provider to provider. Because dental health affects the rest of your body, there can be a fine line between what’s considered a dental procedure and a medical procedure.

Oral surgery could potentially be billed as a medical procedure. And while dental procedures aren’t typically covered by medical insurance, there may be components that are covered under certain circumstances.

Since it can be a case-by-case basis, before you move forward with any dental procedures, it’s probably a smart idea to talk to your medical insurance provider to see if you’re covered. That conversation alone can be a good start to understanding potential out of pocket costs that may come up.

One important thing to note is that there is a difference between a dental office that takes your insurance vs a dental office that you are in-network with. A dentist may take your insurance even though you are out of network with them.

When a dentist says that they take your insurance, that likely means that they will file a claim to your insurance for you. But if your insurance doesn’t cover a procedure or service, the price will generally be set at your dentist’s discretion—and you would typically be responsible for paying the costs out of pocket.

Generally, using an out-of-network dentist means your insurance would cover less and you’d pay more. Being in-network, on the other hand, usually means that your insurance company has pre-negotiated the fees with the dentist and they generally can’t charge more than that. So you’d typically pay less with an in-network dentist because more of it might be covered by insurance.

PAYMENT PLANS OFFERED BY YOUR DENTIST’S OFFICE

Paying a bill on a weekly or monthly basis can be much more manageable than paying it in a lump sum. That’s why dental offices may offer flexible payment plans for procedures not covered by insurance.

Because payment plans differ from dentist to dentist, it can be helpful to speak to your dental office about the specific terms of any payment plans offered. For example, you might want to ask what procedures qualify for a payment plan.

Is there an interest fee, and if so, how much is it? Do they have to check your credit before offering you a payment plan? Asking these questions beforehand may help keep you from getting blindsided by any unexpected costs.

These payment plans may be offered directly through your dentist office, or they can be offered by third-party services like Care Credit . Check with your dentist to see which type of financing options they offer to see if they are a good fit for you.

TAKING OUT A DENTAL LOAN

A personal loan is an unsecured loan that you can use for almost anything. And because of this flexibility, many people use personal loans to pay for out of pocket medical expenses.

And personal loans tend to have lower interest rates than credit cards.

Using a personal loan to finance dental work (dental loan) might be a better option to finance dental work than using a credit card. The lower the interest rate, the lower your monthly payment. And personal loans tend to have lower interest rates than credit cards.

Credit cards currently have an average interest rate of around 17% , but online lenders such as SoFi offer personal loans with lower interest rates to qualified borrowers.

How much you can borrow is also flexible when it comes to personal loans to finance your dental work. In short, a dental loan might be a good option to cover additional dental needs, from basic cavity fillings to more complex, high-cost procedures

EARLY RELEASE OF SUPERANNUATION FOR DENTAL TREATMENT

Do you need major dental work but have no idea how you’re going to pay for it? You could qualify for the Early Release of Superannuation (ERS), which has been established to provide you with access to your funds when you need them most.

Instead of waiting until you are 65 years old, you are able to access your funds immediately, regardless of you are in your 20s or your 40s. That’s why requesting an early release of superannuation for dental treatment can provide enormous financial relief, especially if you have limited private health cover.

How does early Release of Superannuation (ERS) work?

The early access to superannuation funds has been designed to allow you to receive essential dental treatment that is paid for by funds that belong to you.

However, you should note that you need to meet select criteria to apply for the early release of funds. This option should also be a last resort and one taken after all other considerations have been exhausted. Speaking to a financial counsellor before you go ahead is a good idea.

How can I apply for Early Release of Superannuation (ERS)?

First, you need to establish if you are eligible to access the funds. Depending on the superannuation fund you are with, you are allowed access to a lump sum to pay out-of-pocket expenses for dental treatment for yourself or your dependents.

The specific requirements for applying for early access based on compassionate grounds include:

  • Meeting the needs of dental treatment that falls under any of the following conditions:
  • Life-threatening
  • Producing acute or chronic pain
  • Reduces dignity or quality of life
  • You do not have the financial means to pay for the required treatment.
  • A report needs to be completed by a dental practitioner that is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency.

How does a dental ERS application work?

Australian Tax Office (ATO) has strict rules for what qualifies as a treatment you can finance through ERS. Here’s how the procedure usually begins:

  1. Get a Dental assessment.
  2. At our practice, we present you with a comprehensive treatment plan backed by scans, photographs and video of your dental condition.
  3. Your plan lets you know exactly what we think needs to be done and why, and then gives the item number and cost for each.
  4. We discuss options for how to proceed. You can apply for ERS to pay for treatments for yourself, your partner or your children.
  5. Your application for funding must cover the entire cost of the procedure, so it is important you have enough funds to cover the cost of treatment.

Qualifying for ERS for dental

Your superannuation is there to help protect your quality of life in retirement. Accessing it before that time is strictly regulated of course. However, for cases where your quality of life will be lower if you don’t access those funds, the government makes allowances.

It must be justified on medical grounds. If your teeth aren’t fit for purpose – if you can’t chew and can’t eat – that is good grounds for an ERS application.

Cosmetic veneers and things like that are not really an option. But if you need the porcelain to adjust your bite, that’s different. So, it really depends on your circumstances. All-on-4 is probably the most common treatment which people have been funding via the super route, that is when you need all your teeth replacing because they are terminal so this certainly fits the criteria.”

How long do I have to wait?

The application process to access your super usually takes a few days to get together, then an estimated 10 to 14 working days for assessment.

Are there limitations on the amount of dental superannuation I can withdraw?

In a word, no! There are no restrictions on how much super you can withdraw. You are eligible to withdraw the amount required for your treatment, however large or small an amount it may be.

I don’t have sufficient super – Can I access another account?

Absolutely! If you don’t have sufficient superannuation left to cover the cost of your treatment it is possible to access the superannuation of your partner, spouse or other dependants as you see fit.

Dental superannuation – What it covers?

Early release of your superannuation can cover a wide range of surgical dental treatments including…

Orthodontics
Dental implants
General dentistry
Endodontic therapy
Oral and maxillofacial surgery
Crowns

How much tax do you pay on early release of super?

There are no special tax rates for a super withdrawal because of severe financial hardship. It is paid and taxed as a normal super lump sum. If you are under 60 years old, this is generally taxed between 17% and 22%. If you are older than 60 years old, you will not be taxed.
