Here are the factors that influence as to How Much Does Cosmetic Dentistry Cost in Melbourne

Today a healthy and beautiful smile is more important than ever, which is why many people are turning to cosmetic dentistry. While many people wish to perfect their smile, sometimes the cost of this treatment can be a big worry. The great news is that reasonably priced options are available today and payment options also make it easier than ever to enjoy a great smile. If you are worried about cosmetic dentistry prices, here is a closer look at.

Many different factors can influence what you pay to have cosmetic dentistry procedures completed. One big factor happens to be the type of treatment that you choose. If the treatment needed is limited, the price will be fairly low. However, if more extensive treatment is needed, cosmetic dentistry prices can quickly increase based upon the specific treatment needed.

When people choose to have cosmetic procedures done on their teeth, they often forget to figure in the laboratory charges when figuring the approximate cost of treatment. Certain procedures may require some work in a laboratory, which will result in charges from the laboratory. While some dentists include this amount in the total cost, sometimes these charges may be separate. If you are trying to figure out the overall cost of your cosmetic treatment, do not forget about possible laboratory charges.

In some cases, additional surgery may be needed for those undergoing cosmetic dentistry procedures. For example, those who decide on dental implants may require additional surgery to get the implant site prepared. Preoperative and postoperative surgical procedures are sometimes needed and can increase the overall cost of the cosmetic treatment needed.

Now that you understand some of the factors that can affect cosmetic dentistry costs you may be wondering how much certain procedures will cost you. While the end cost can vary, here is a look at the estimated cost for certain procedures.

Dentistry is not a “Black and White”

Unfortunately in dentistry, more than in medicine, things are not absolutely black and white. So there are a lot of shades of grey and it depends very much on the dentist, personal experience, expertise and training.

The patient’s own level of expectations and perfectionism, medical and dental history, oral hygiene status as well as their likelihood to follow a treatment plan can also influence the dentist’s decisions.

The dentist is not basically trying to tell you something different to make more money, but they have different ideas, different pieces of training. And they see things differently. And it’s extremely variable.

If you want to know the cost of a smile makeover, it makes sense to go to the dentists who know how to do it correctly and who can actually create a beautiful smile. Why get a smile makeover in the first place if the result is going to be a mediocre smile?

The Real Cost of Cosmetic Dentistry

TO BE A WISE DENTAL CONSUMER, YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND SOME BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT COSMETIC DENTISTRY COSTS

    • Cosmetic dentistry, while it requires great expertise, is not a legally distinct speciality. Therefore, if you end up with low-quality esthetic dental work, your legal recourse is generally only to challenge the work from a functional perspective. Your work will be judged by the standard of quality of general dentistry, not the standard of excellent cosmetic dentistry. So if you choose a dentist because the fees are low, you generally have no recourse if the work does not meet your esthetic expectations.
    • Second, to become an expert cosmetic dentist, a dentist has to spend many hours away from the office in continuing education. Not only are the course fees high, but the cost in lost time away from the office is much higher. And the dentist generally has to travel to interstate or overseas cities to obtain this training. Naturally, the cosmetic dentist will want to be compensated for this tremendous expense by charging more for these procedures than a general dentist.
    • Third, dental insurance plans are designed to provide you with a basic standard of general dental care. While many cosmetic dentistry procedures are covered by dental insurance plans, they are only covered at a functional level. The insurance company may help you pay for a crown to physically protect your tooth but won’t pay the extra cost required to make it beautiful. Furthermore, some dental insurance plans maintain lists of dentists called preferred providers or network dentists who are willing to discount their fees in order to receive referrals from the insurance company. Don’t expect any expert cosmetic dentists to agree to these insurance company terms.
    • Fourth, beautiful cosmetic dentistry requires the use of expensive materials, first-class cosmetic dental labs, and usually extra time and effort on the part of the cosmetic dentist. All these extra costs are factored into the fee.
    • Cosmetic dentistry is defined as any type of dental procedure that serves to improve the appearance of a patient’s teeth, as opposed to other dental procedures that are more concerned with the health of the patient’s teeth. The cosmetic dentist is more concerned with improving a person’s overall appearance and self-confidence. While many dentists do both, it is important to make this distinction when it comes to dental care. One is considered necessary and the other is not.

When it comes to cosmetic dentistry, the main thing which tends to put people off is the cost of treatment. Cosmetic dentistry costs vary from practice to practice, however no matter where you go the treatment will never be cheap. Generally the higher the prices, the better care you will receive afterwards.

Why do Cosmetic Dentist Costs in Melbourne vary so much?

The cost of dental care services varies for a number of reasons, including:

  • The health and quality of the underlying teeth and gums. This can vary dramatically from patient to patient. We like to use an analogy when it comes to the quality of teeth and gums. It is a bit like comparing the foundations of your house; if they are not strong, then it is hard to build a brilliant new extension on the old house.
  • The type of material used. Whether composite (plastic), ceramic or gold materials are used will have a strong bearing on the costs of your dental procedure. Different materials vary greatly in terms of both time preparation and the number of visits required.
  • What treatment or procedures you actually need
  • How extensive and what level of treatment you need
  • The current condition of your teeth
  • Your level of health insurance (sometimes health insurance does not cover the cost of treatments such as cosmetic dental procedures)
  • The scope of treatment required; whether one or multiple teeth are involved
  • finally, how durable and how perfect you want the final result to be. Are you happy with a good wool carpet for your home floors or are you expecting Italian marble?

Other Factors that Affect the Cost of Cosmetic Dentistry in Melbourne

Just like the cosmetic dentistry costs vary from practice to practice, the prices will also include different things too. Some Practices will include aftercare, while others will include very little apart from the treatment.

It is hard to give an exact sum as to how much you will have to pay. Cosmetic dentistry prices will vary depending upon how severe your problem is. Sometimes you will have to have extra work done if the work is so severe. For example, you may need veneers but you may first need quite a lot of the original tooth removed. Some cosmetic dentists will charge extra if a lot of work has to be done on top of the procedure.

If you look around you will be able to find cosmetic dentists who charge lower prices but you should always be wary of low prices. Ask the dentist what the price includes and whether there will be any extra fees. Sometimes it is not made overly clear what the cost actually is and that can cause problems for many patients.

Overall the cost of cosmetic dentistry will vary from practice to practice. So always do a little research before you choose the right dentist to suit your needs and budget.

How Much Does the Dentist Treatment Cost in Melbourne?

Q: How much will the Dentist treatment cost?

A: Dentist Fees in Melbourne vary for each treatment and for each patient. It is almost impossible to let you know roughly especially over the phone as to how much procedures cost without actually seeing your teeth.

With any procedure, the best thing to do is come in and see either Dr Castro for a consultation. At this appointment, you will find out all of your treatment options, have any questions answered and gain an estimated quote and treatment plan

Q: How much does a Smile Makeover Cost in Melbourne?

A: A Smile Makeover can involve many different areas of Dentistry including Orthodontics, Periodontics, Implants, Crowns, Veneers and Teeth Whitening. It can range from simply whitening teeth to a full mouth smile makeover.

A Smile Makeover can be performed in different ways and with different materials. The complexity can vary from individual to individual. We can give you some ideas, but the answer has a lot in common with the question “How much is a Car?” or “How much is a House?” Those costs can vary over the map and what model of a car is, can’t they?

You will be seeing the same thing in Cosmetic Dentistry. Then the two important questions also have to be answered, What is your level of expectation of perfection and how difficult or easy will your treatment be?

How Much Does the Dentist Treatment Cost in Melbourne? How much does the dentist cost Melbourne, Australia

Q: “I was given a cheaper Cosmetic Dentistry Fees over the phone by one dental office in Melbourne”

A: We see a lot of patients shopping over the phone for the best price and based decision as to the treatment cost over the phone enquiry and estimated cost given by them by an office receptionist. But those over the phone figures could just be an estimate of fees, someone can throw in a small figure or fees just to get them in their door, but that it isn’t the correct fees.

Price-shopping for cosmetic dentistry over the phone would be like comparing Apples over oranges. The dental costs provided over the phone shopping could be based on approximate prices and should be used as a general guide only and do not factor any complexities or variances that may arise on an individual basis.

As every patient has individual needs the only way to get an accurate dental costing is to have a thorough examination and consultation and discuss your goals and also your budget.

A: Our fees are based upon our care, skills and judgment and the time necessary to provide a high level of service.

How Much Does the Dentist Treatment Cost in Melbourne? How much does the dentist cost Melbourne, Australia

A: We understand a beautiful smile and great oral health is a significant investment. Naturally, you want to be sure you are getting a good value. One thing to ask yourself, are you concerned that the fee is too high for the recommended treatment or is the amount of the fee difficult for you right now?

Perhaps the best way we can help you with your decision is to review the benefits of having the treatment and the risk of not having it. By going ahead with the recommended treatment, you will prevent potentially a small problem getting worst which consequently needing extensive and expensive treatment at later future times.

And in terms of appearance, the treatment will put you on your way to smile anyone would be proud of.

Q: Why are dental procedures and treatment so expensive?

A: While most people wouldn’t mind a brighter or straighter smile, it’s pretty rare to find someone who actually enjoys visiting the dentist, even for basic cleanings. For many, the discomfort of having a veritable stranger taking metal picks, tubes, scrapers and other tools to their wide-open mouths is too much to bear. And given the country’s ever-tightening financial waistband, there’s another aspect of seeing the dentist that’s equally daunting: the bill.

Those who have visited a dentist — or considered it — in recent years know that even the most basic dental procedures can be quite costly. Dental fillings can range from more than $100 to nearly $300 each, depending on the size of the filing, while more invasive and time-consuming procedures like a crown or molar root canal go for about $1,000 per tooth or more.

There are a number of reasons why dental procedures are so expensive. First, services are performed by trained professionals. Dentists are doctors who go through many years of college, dental school and specialized) training. Like many other professionals — lawyers, accountants, expert mechanics — dental services are priced accordingly.

How Much Does the Dentist Treatment Cost in Melbourne? How much does the dentist cost Melbourne, Australia

How Much Does the Dentist Treatment Cost in Melbourne?

The big boys, of course, play with big toys. The tools on hand at a general dentistry practice include highly specialized equipment that is not only pricey to purchase, but also to maintain. Film X-ray machines cost upwards and newer digital models go for more. A simple dental chair with the necessary light, trays and hookups, meanwhile, costs a lot.

This, of course, doesn’t take into account the costs of surgical tools, as well as the anaesthesia and other medications used in procedures such as root canals and filings. Additionally, dentists often turn to third-party labs and other dental product companies for things like crowns and dentures, which can also drive up the costs of certain procedures

Yet tools, drugs and lab work aren’t even the most costly part of doing business for many dental professionals. Overhead costs of running a dental office are huge. Anywhere from 60% to 80% of what a patient pays goes toward the expense of running a modern dental practice. Dentists pay for rent or mortgage payments on their office space, payroll for hygienists, office managers and receptionists, health insurance, taxes, supplies, business insurance and technology — just to name a few. “A lot of people would be surprised to know how tight the profit margins are.

A: The cost of dental care services varies for a number of reasons, including:

    • The health and quality of the underlying teeth and gums. This can vary dramatically from patient to patient. We like to use an analogy when it comes to the quality of teeth and gums. It is a bit like comparing the foundations of your house; if they are not strong, then it is hard to build a brilliant new extension on the old house.

It is important to keep in mind that, when it comes to dental care, the age-old adage is true: you really do get what you pay for. Cheap dentistry is exactly that. The better the quality of your dental treatment, the more likely it is to last for years, or even the rest of your lifetime (if carefully maintained). The boost to your confidence and self-esteem, as well as the actual functioning of your teeth and mouth, should be above looking for the cheapest bargain!

Q: Does my dental Insurance Cover Cosmetic Dental Work?

A: Like medical plans, most dental plans do not cover cosmetic dental work significantly. Dental Insurance will cover some cosmetic dental procedures but not others. Fixing a chip in a front tooth could be considered “cosmetic” and would be covered by dental insurance to a certain extent. Almost no procedure, with the exception of preventative care, is covered at 100% by dental insurance.

In our practice, I have seen insurance cover part of cosmetic porcelain veneers and bonding, which will help reshape, align and change the colour of front teeth. A lot of this depends on the specific insurance plan and the reasons for doing the treatment. Check your dental benefit package to find out if you have cosmetic. Or contact your insurer. It’s always a good idea to submit a pre-determination to an insurance plan to see if desired treatments are covered.

Dental insurance will never cover bleaching or tooth whitening. Talk with your dentists about what sort of cosmetic procedures you would like done, and they can give you a better idea of your coverage.

But before you get so down that the concept of smiling becomes irrelevant, make a quick call to your dental benefits provider. You should be able to get some answers there. And while you’re at it, call your dentist. He or she may be able to offer some lower-cost financing options that fit into your budget — and that is truly something to smile about, even if your teeth aren’t perfect!

Q: Dental Insurance coverage of Cosmetic dentistry cost

A: Dental insurance will often help make your dental care more affordable. Purely cosmetic dentistry procedures are not covered by insurance, but many dental procedures have both cosmetic and health-related purposes, so cosmetic dentistry is often partially covered by dental insurance.

If insurance does not cover your procedure, or does not cover enough of the cost to make your procedure affordable, we work with financing companies that can help you stretch your budget to fit the cost of treatment. Whether you need as little as $200 or as much as $50,000, we offer options for you

Dentists are free to set their own fees. Unlike medical services covered by Medicare, which have prescribed rebates and for which the AMA provides their members with recommended fees, there are no standard fees for services provided by dentists or other dental professionals in Australia.

Dentists’ prices depend on a range of factors – such as location, overheads, experience as well as factors that affect the degree of difficulty and time involved in doing a procedure on a specific patient and differences in the method or materials that are appropriate to each case.

You ultimately have the right to choose whether to go ahead with a particular treatment plan or not, but most of us don’t have expertise in dentistry. This makes it hard to know whether a dental practitioner’s recommendation is the best course of action or if they’re trying to make a profit at your expense.

Q: Does Medicare cover Dental Treatment?

Dentistry is still unaffordable for many Australians. Research from AIHW in 2013 found that 35% of adults had avoided or delayed going to the dentist due to cost, a figure which has been on the rise since the 1990s.

Unfortunately, dental services are only covered by Medicare under certain circumstances.

Public dental care

Public dental care is available only to a limited segment of the Australian population and waitlists can be long. Eligibility requirements for public dental care vary across states and territories but it is usually available to those with a healthcare or pensioner concession card.

In case of a dental emergency such as a dental condition that causes difficulty with breathing, tooth fracture that exposes a nerve or bleeding that doesn’t stop, call your nearest community dental clinic or hospital emergency department.

Free dental care for children

Under the Child Dental Benefit Scheme, children aged between two and 17 are eligible for free basic dental care such as check-ups, fillings, seals, extractions and root canal (up to the value of $1000 over two calendar years) if their parent, carer or guardian receives the Family Tax Benefit Part A or a relevant Australian Government payment.

Q: Private health insurance and dental costs

When it comes to dental costs and private health insurance, there are two elements you’ll want to understand in order to choose a provider that offers you the best value for money:

  • Rebates: This may be a percentage such as 60% or fixed dollar benefit amount for each item number, and is probably where you’ll save the most money.
  • Preferred provider networks: Some funds have ‘preferred providers’. Using these means you’ll pay less in fees and get higher rebates, but it locks you into using particular providers.

To get value for money on your extras insurance you’ll need to make sure you’re getting more back from the fund than what you’re paying them in premiums, which is where rebates come in.

Rebates

The average rebate available from private health insurers for a regular check-up – periodic exam, scale and clean plus fluoride – is $126. Though how much you get back will depend on your policy – some policies offer as much as 100% of the cost of a check-up.

Some policies offer as much as 100% of the cost of a check-up

Dental rebates vary not only across funds but also between policies within funds and for the service being claimed. Funds also don’t publish the rebates they offer for all items of dental treatment in all circumstances, so check if you need special treatment before you sign up.

Watch out for annual and lifetime limits

In addition to the rebates, you’ll also want to check the annual limits for each category (for example, there may be different upper limits for general and major dental work), as well as lifetime limits on particular services (such as orthodontic work).

Expect to pay more to cover major dental work

While nearly all policies will provide rebates for preventative dental care such as check-ups (exam/scale and clean/fluoride), fewer policies are willing to fork out for more expensive work such as braces and crowns. For those policies that do cover major dental work, the premiums will generally be more expensive.

How Much Does the Dentist Treatment Cost in Melbourne?

Q: Will my private health insurance cover the cost of treatment 100%?

A: Depending on your level of dental (extras) coverage will determine what and how much treatment is covered. Most treatment is claimable through your insurance but rebates do vary. At your consultation appointment which you are able to claim as long as you have a minimum of basic extras cover, you will receive a treatment plan and quote that will contain item numbers you can take back to your private health insurance. They will let you know what and how much you are covered for.

Q: What does private health insurance cover?

  • Preventative Dental  Covers treatment such as consultations, scale and cleans, and mouthguards.
  • General Restorative Dental – Covers treatments such as simple fillings and extractions, including wisdom teeth removal.
  • Major Dental and implants – Covers complex treatments like repairing or replacing teeth, such as with a dental crown.
  • Orthodontics – Covers treatments that assist with the alignment of teeth and the jaw, using braces and retainers.

How Much Does the Dentist Treatment Cost in Melbourne? How much does the dentist cost Melbourne, Australia

Q: What does the government cover?

Unlike going to the doctor, where the Australian Government contributes to the cost of consultations and treatment through Medicare, there is no universal government contribution for dentistry.

If you’re not already receiving government benefits and not a senior citizen, there are likely no government benefits for dental treatment available to you or your children.

And if you do qualify, waiting lists may apply.

“Most states have waiting lists of well over a year for public dental care – and if people need to wait a year for care, their conditions are only going to get worse.” – Filling the Gap, a Grattan Institute Study

That said, it’s always worth checking to see if you’re eligible.

Q:  Are you eligible for any public benefits?

The public system does provide some dental care support – but it’s only for people who meet specific criteria.

Public Dental Services

What’s offered and who is eligible depends on the state – but it usually focuses on senior citizens and people already receiving other government benefits.

Q: How to prevent dental costs

Finally, the simplest (but sometimes hardest) solution. Forming good habits is the best way to protect yourself from preventable dental issues. The most affordable way to manage the health of your teeth and gums is through regular brushing, daily flossing and dental check-ups every year — all the stuff the toothpaste ads constantly tell us to do.

Now what?

Consider your budget, think about the dental cover, consult with your dentist – do what you can to plan ahead for dental costs wherever possible. The decisions you make now really can have a long-term impact on the health and wellbeing of your family.

Best Laser Teeth Whitening in Melbourne with our Sapphire Laser System

The Sapphire Laser Teeth Whitening System is available as an in-office treatment and take-home treatment. It has proven to whiten teeth by up to 7 shades in 30 minutes.

The creators of the Professional Sapphire Laser Teeth Whitening System have engineered a unique mix of active ingredients to ensure that sensitivity is minimized while teeth whitening effects are maximized. In addition to whitening components, the Sapphire gel also contains minerals and fluoride, allowing teeth to remain healthy and strong.

What Makes Sapphire Laser Teeth Whitening System Unique?

The Sapphire Professional Chairside treatment contains 25% hydrogen peroxide. The whitening gel is applied to the teeth for either 30 minutes or 60 minutes, depending on the severity of staining. Though results vary for each patient, Sapphire whitening gel lightens teeth by approximately 7 shades in 30 minutes and 12 shades in 60 minutes. Sapphire Whitening is chemically activated, so no heat, lasers or lamps are required.

What makes Sapphire  Laser Teeth Whitening unique compared with other In-Office Teeth Whitening system?

  • Does not include the use of UV light to activate whitening agents.
  • The creators of the Professional Sapphire Whitening System have engineered a unique mix of active ingredients to ensure that sensitivity is minimized while teeth whitening effects are maximized. In addition to whitening components, the Sapphire gel also contains minerals and fluoride, allowing teeth to remain healthy and strong.
  • Also included in the whitening gel is a desensitizing agent, which decreases the risk of sensitive teeth following the whitening procedure.
  • If you have sensitive teeth, or just want as painless a process as possible, the Sapphire Teeth Whitening System is right for you. Sapphire is much easier on teeth than other in-office treatments.
  • The Sapphire System stands out as a remarkably fast and effective teeth whitening solution. It has proven to whiten teeth by up to 7 shades in 30 minutes.

What should I expect from my Sapphire Teeth Whitening Procedure?

Sapphire Teeth Whitening is a fast and simple procedure and should take no more than 30 minutes to an hour. Your dentist will perform a preliminary dental exam, to make sure that the treatment will be beneficial for you. You will be given protective eye gear to wear, to shield your eyes during the procedure. Your gums will also be protected, to prevent exposure to the bleaching gel and plasma light. During the treatment, you can continue to relax by taking a nap, watching TV, or listening to music.

Unlike other whitening treatments that only use bleaching chemicals, Sapphire Whitening is able to produce brighter results in a shorter amount of time by combining light therapy with advanced chemistry. The brightening effect is amplified when the Plasma Arc Light is applied to the whitening gel, which triggers a chemical reaction that lightens the tooth almost immediately.

Discomfort after the procedure is usually minimal or nonexistent, though some patients may experience enhanced tooth sensitivity to the cold. These temporary symptoms should last between 1 to 3 days and can be relieved by over the counter medication. Though Sapphire Whitening is overwhelmingly safe for the vast majority of patients, it is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, children younger than 13 years of age, and patients taking light sensitive medication. Results can be maintained by following proper dental hygiene and brushing occasionally with Sapphire take-home whitening gel.

Laser Teeth Whitening FAQs

How long does Sapphire In-Office Whitening take?

The complete teeth whitening procedure takes just over an hour. The teeth whitening begins with a preparation period followed by 45 minutes of whitening. A cleaning is recommended prior to the actual Sapphire Teeth Whitening session.

.

Are there any side effects to Sapphire teeth whitening?

With teeth whitening some people experience temporary increased tooth sensitivity to cold during treatment. These symptoms disappear within 1-3 days after completion of the teeth whitening treatment.

Is Sapphire Teeth Whitening Safe?

Yes, extensive research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth under the supervision of a dentist is safe. In fact, many dentists consider teeth whitening the safest cosmetic dental procedure available. As with any teeth whitening product, Sapphire Teeth Whitening is not recommended for children under 13 years of age and pregnant or lactating women.

How long do the results last?

By following some simple post teeth whitening care instructions, your teeth will always be lighter than they were before. To keep your teeth looking their best, we recommend flossing, brushing twice daily, and occasional touch-ups with Sapphire take-home gel. These are professional formula products designed specifically to keep your teeth their brightest. They are available through our office.

Best Teeth Whitening treatment in Melbourne

Best Teeth Whitening treatment in Melbourne

Best Teeth Whitening treatment in Melbourne

LumiBrite’s Sapphire Laser teeth Whitening treatment is the new generation of Chairside Whitening with Laser

The LumiBrite’s Sapphire Laser teeth Whitening treatment is a safe, gentle, and effective way to whiten teeth and achieve that bright, healthy smile you’ve always wanted. Using state-of-the-art, bleach-free whitening technology, the LUMIBRITE system eliminates the tooth sensitivity that can accompany other forms of teeth whitening products. You’ll be able to show off your pearly-whites in no time!

How does the LumiBrite’s Sapphire Laser teeth Whitening treatment work?

LUMIBRITE is a revolutionary teeth whitening system that combines the powerful effects of the Sapphire® Supreme Plasma Arc Curing Light, along with professional-grade teeth whitening gel. The combination of light and gel work together to give you a whiter, more stunning smile in less time than other forms of teeth whitening.

How is LumiBrite’s Sapphire Laser teeth Whitening treatment different from other forms of whitening?

  • Pain-free, zero-sensitivity whitening
  • Beautiful, white smiles in fewer than 30 minutes of treatment time
  • No lengthy isolation or potentially dangerous UV rays
  • Long-lasting results up to six months
  • The professional procedure not available over-the-counter or in a mall

What type of whitener is used?

This system utilizes a hydrogen peroxide-based bleaching gel that has a 35% hydrogen peroxide concentration and a pH around 6.

Different than any other professional system we reviewed, Lumibrite™ protocol includes the application of desensitizer before each application of the whitener. This helps to minimize the potential for post-bleaching tooth sensitivity.

Other light unit characteristics

The LumiBrite’s Sapphire Laser teeth Whitening treatment used plasma arc laser light unit (the Sapphire™ Supreme PAC). The Sapphire™ Supreme PAC unit has been designed so it filters out infrared emissions, which helps to ensure that the teeth being treated don’t become over-heated. The wavelength of the light emitted from this unit is in the blue-green range.

It is also capable of illuminating all of the patient’s teeth (both upper and lower) simultaneously. This helps to make performing the procedure more efficient for the dentist.

LUMIBRITE® has many advantages over these other treatments, including:

  • All teeth treated simultaneously.
  • Faster treatment times.
  • Longer lasting results.
  • Reduced sensitivity.
  • Safe procedure and treatment.
  • No harmful UV rays.
  • Treatments are performed by an experienced professional.

How long do Teeth whitening treatments take?

From start to finish, LumiBrite’s Sapphire Laser teeth Whitening treatment usually take on the order of 90 minutes or so.

The whitener is typically applied to the patient’s teeth for a total duration of one hour (two applications, 30 minutes each). Both the upper and lower teeth are treated simultaneously. Including all of the activities that need to be performed before and after treatment, the total amount of time usually rounds up to about 90 minutes.

How is the LumiBrite’s Sapphire Laser teeth Whitening treatment performed?

Prior to treatment, there will be a consultation where the dentist will outline the exact procedure.  On treatment day, a deep cleaning (prophylaxis) will be performed to rid the teeth of any debris and plaque.

Here is a brief overview of the LUMIBRITE® procedure:

  1. Cheek retractors will be placed to expose the entire surface of the teeth.
  2. The gums will be painted or covered to reduce sensitivity.
  3. The teeth will be painted with desensitizing gel to virtually eliminate sensitivity.
  4. The dentist will apply the whitening gel to the teeth.
  5. The Sapphire light will then be applied to activate the gel.  This specialized LUMIBRITE® light can be positioned to work on all the teeth simultaneously.
  6. After 30 minutes, the gel will be removed from the teeth and the mouth will be rinsed.
  7. More gel will be applied for another 30 minutes.
  8. Again, the gel will be removed and the mouth will be thoroughly cleansed.

Are at-home follow-up treatments recommended?

The protocol for the LumiBrite™ system recommends that a patient should continue on with at-home treatments after their in-office bleaching session has been performed. They recommend the use of their LumiBrite™ Home Whitening Gel product.

What is the difference between laser teeth whitening versus ZOOM teeth whitening?

What is the Difference between laser teeth whitening versus ZOOM teeth whitening?

The Zoom!™ whitening system uses a 25% hydrogen peroxide-based whitener.

Zoom!™ whitening gel has been formulated for use with a bleaching light.

Discus’ latest unit is their WhiteSpeed LED bleaching lamp (LED = light-emitting diode). Historically, Zoom!™ lamps were designed to produced output in the 350-400nm range (violet light). According to Discus an important aspect of the new WhiteSpeed unit is that it emits some ultraviolet light too

This focus on UV output is different than any other bleaching system we reviewed. In fact, many light units are specifically designed to filter out UV light.

Is light really needed?

A manufacturer’s recommendation about the use of a bleaching light is ultimately based on their claims that it activates a catalyst within the whitener, which in turn can help to increase its effectiveness.

In the past, the validity of this type of claim has not been universally accepted by the dental community as a whole. However, Zoom!™ studies suggest that its latest generation whitener does contain a component that once activated by ultraviolet light does assist the bleaching process, thus making the use of the Zoom!™ light unit an aid. This is the only system we encountered that made mention of ultraviolet-light activation.

Light unit characteristics

Zoom!™ bleaching lights are designed so they are able to illuminate all of the patient’s teeth (both upper and lower) at once. This feature makes performing treatments less labour intense for the dentist, which may ultimately help to reduce your whitening costs.

Some bleaching lights have a relatively narrow beamwidth. That means a staff member must stay with the patient and continually move the light unit around so every tooth is given proper exposure.

The Zoom!™ bleaching lights filter out infrared emissions. This is important because doing so helps to minimize the amount of heat that the patient’s teeth are subjected to during their treatment.

How long do treatments take?

Treatments with the Zoom!™ system usually take about 60 minutes, from start to finish.

Each bleaching session is broken down into three individual applications of the whitener, with each application being left on the teeth for 15 minutes (45 minutes total exposure). However, with pre- and post-treatment activities included, the total treatment time will probably take up towards 60 minutes.

Zoom!™ protocol allows for a fourth 15-minute application if the dentist feels it’s needed.

The whitening procedure

Zoom™ treatments involve those same basic steps used with any in-office whitening system.

Note: The Zoom!™ system does include “activation” of the whitening gel with a bleaching light, post-treatment application of a desensitizer, and continued treatments with an at-home whitener.

Porcelain Veneers Maintenance: A Complete Guide

Porcelain Veneers Maintenance: A Complete Guide

You’ve finally made the decision to revamp your smile with Porcelain Veneer– congratulations! Now you can venture out into the world with a beautiful, straight smile. However, your work isn’t done after you’ve had your veneers put into place, and there are several steps you’ll need to take to keep them safe. By taking a proactive approach to caring for your Porcelain veneers, you can get the most out of your stunning new smile.

Because Porcelain veneer treatment is an investment into your smile, there is a good reason to want to maximize your results. This means prolonging the life of your veneers with proper care.

How to Make Porcelain Veneers Last

Porcelain veneers can last up to 15 to 20 years if properly cared for. To get the most out of your restoration, you should adhere to some basic oral care guidelines.

Below are Tips for Caring for Your Porcelain Veneer

Don’t Chew on Inedible Items

Do you have a bad habit of chewing on pens, or are you a nail biter? Not only are these habits gross and a social faux pas, but they can also actually lead to damage of your porcelain veneers over time. To protect your cosmetic dental work, make an effort to keep inedible items out of your mouth.

Do not bite into very hard objects. Everybody knows the teeth are not just used for eating, but they can also be used as tools for, say, opening bottles. Unfortunately, such activity is harmful not just for your teeth, but also for your veneers. Very hard objects, such as metal caps and glass bottles can chip the porcelain. If you have the habit of biting into random things, such as pencils, pens, or even ice, it would be helpful if you can take steps to end the mannerism.

Keep them Clean

You must care for your veneers just as much as you care for your real teeth. Brushing at least twice a day and using dental floss are great ways to maintain optimal dental health. Poor hygiene can also lead to gum diseases, which may cause your gums to recede, exposing the borders of veneers and putting them at risk of chipping or detachment.

How to Clean Porcelain Veneers

Maintaining your veneers on a daily basis is essential, but these delicate coverings require more care than your natural teeth.

• When brushing and flossing, use gentle motions. Aggressive and forceful movements may chip or damage your veneers. When your veneers are installed, your dentist should give you instructions on how to brush and floss properly. An electric toothbrush with soft bristles can be useful once more.
• Brush your teeth with an alcohol-free mouthwash every time. A good antiseptic mouthwash can help you remove plaque, prevent gum disease, and keep your veneers looking their best. However, as previously stated, alcohol can soften bonding composites and contribute to the premature degradation of veneers. Choose an alcohol-free mouthwash.
If you’re having trouble removing stains or discoloration, make an appointment with your dentist for a professional cleaning.

• Brush your veneers with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Because those thin enamel coatings are more sensitive than natural teeth and may scratch easily, avoid using brushes with hard bristles. Consider using an electric toothbrush with soft bristles because the pressure applied is more controlled than with manual brushing, resulting in less pressure on your gums.
• Make use of non-abrasive toothpaste. Your dentist may recommend a fluoride toothpaste designed specifically for veneers. If you choose your own toothpaste, you should avoid abrasive formulas such as those containing baking soda or hydrogen peroxide.

Use the right toothpaste

Use the right toothpaste. Some toothpaste brands may contain ingredients that are too abrasive for both your teeth and your veneers. When choosing your toothpaste, make sure to check the ingredients for substances like hydrogen peroxide and sodium bicarbonate or baking soda. The former will eat away at your veneers’ surface while the latter’s gritty nature can lead to the veneers losing their colour and sheen. In general, it may be wiser to choose gel products over those in paste form as they tend to contain none of the ingredients mentioned. Do not feel compelled to buy whitening toothpastes either, as they are not necessary and may even be detrimental to your veneers.

It is recommended that you floss daily to keep the edges of the veneers clean in between your teeth. Regular waxed nylon floss is an effective cleaner, but it may be a bit difficult to slide between tight contacts of your teeth because of the thick wax. Nylon that has no wax can floss easily but is prone to shredding. The best flossing material is polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) floss. This type of floss uses the same material that is used in the high-tech Gore-Tex fabric. It slides easily between your teeth, and it’s less likely to shred. Also, proper technique is also very important when it comes to flossing. Don’t just slide the floss up and down. This does not clean the sides also known as proximal properly. Place your dental floss between your teeth and gently slide it on the sides of your teeth. Now wrap the floss on one tooth forming a C-shape and slide your floss up and down being sure that you scrap the sides properly. Do this up to under the gums where the plaque is not easily visible. Now without removing the floss from the tooth, slide it over to the adjacent tooth and repeat the same process.

Get your Porcelain Veneers regularly polished

Your Cosmetic Veneer dentists can help to preserve the life of your dental work by polishing your Porcelain veneers. This procedure can be performed approximately once every three months. A Veneer dentist will use specialized solutions and equipment to ensure that your veneers and original teeth are thoroughly cleaned. However, polishing your Dental veneers doesn’t mean that you can slack on your own dental hygiene. Flossing and brushing your teeth frequently can allow you to enjoy longer results after polishing, and you can go long periods of time between each session.

Watch what you eat

The rule against biting hard stuff also applies to food, such as raw carrots, raw apples, hard chips, and meat cuts that contain bone. Aside from watching out for tough food items, you must also be wary of eating too much, especially those that contain lots of sugar and acid. These items contribute to tooth decay which cannot be good for your veneers either. That said, be sure to avoid sweet and starchy foods, such as candies, kinds of pasta, bread, and crackers, as well as sugary drinks like carbonated soda and fruit juice. Acidic items like fruits (lemons and other kinds of citrus) are also best prevented from staying too long inside your mouth. Finally, avoid food that contains lots of colouring. Porcelain Veneers do get stained, just not very easily.

Foods to Avoid With Permanent Veneers

Porcelain veneers are extremely durable, so you can enjoy most of your favourite foods and beverages without fear of your veneers chipping, fading, or otherwise becoming compromised. There are, however, a few food interactions to be aware of. You should also exercise extreme caution if you have no-prep veneers or composite resin, as these are not as durable as porcelain.

If you’ve ever wondered whether it’s safe to eat hard candy, corn on the cob, or even alcohol, we’re here to clear the air.  Read more below.

Most foods are safe to consume when you have permanent veneers, especially if those veneers are made from high-quality porcelain. Porcelain is preferred by dentists because it holds its integrity extremely well, even when under constant stress. It also maintains its color and sheen. If you have or are considering porcelain veneers, you’ll just need to exercise some caution with the following items:

  • If you have veneers, the only food you should avoid is jawbreakers and similar hard candies. This applies to all veneer types, including porcelain, no-prep, composite, and temporaries. Hard candies that melt on their own (such as Jolly Ranchers) are generally safe if you don’t bite into them while they’re still hard.
  • While most foods are safe to eat with porcelain veneers, hard foods such as apples, raw carrots, and bone-in meats should be avoided. When biting down on extremely hard foods, it is possible to crack the porcelain, which is why it is generally recommended that you chew these foods with your back teeth. If you have a more delicate type of veneer, such as composite or Lumineers, you must be extra cautious, ideally avoiding these types of foods entirely.
  • Because porcelain is virtually stain-proof, it will not be discoloured by coffee, tea, colas, red wine, or other dark liquids. However, excessive consumption of dark liquids may stain the bonding material, leaving you with a yellow or brown tinge along the tooth’s edge. While the risk of staining is generally low, it is still best to drink these beverages through a straw so that the liquid enters the mouth directly.
If you have composite veneers, you must exercise extra caution because these lower-quality coverings can become dull or discoloured over time. If you have heat-activated temporary veneers, you must avoid all hot beverages.
  • With veneers, smoking and all forms of tobacco consumption should be avoided. Smoking is harmful to one’s health, and while it is unlikely to stain the porcelain commonly used for veneers, it can discolour the teeth around them. As a result, your veneers may begin to appear unnatural over time as the colour of your other teeth fades. Cigarette smoke can also stain the veneer bonding material.
  • If you have veneers, you should limit your alcohol consumption. Aside from the health risks associated with moderate to heavy drinking, excessive alcohol consumption can soften the bonding material over time.
This means that the veneer may become unstable and need to be replaced before its time. Furthermore, without a strong bond, veneers are more prone to chips and cracks. While a high-quality porcelain veneer (placed by a skilled cosmetic dentist) can often last 15 to 20 years with proper care, if you drink excessively, the lifespan may be significantly shorter.
  • Eating Corn on the Cob With Veneers? If you have permanent veneers, you can eat corn on the cob. Just be careful not to bite too deeply into the cob. The goal is to gently separate the corn from the cob’s surface. Furthermore, corn on the cob should always be cooked; consuming raw corn on the cob may put additional strain on the veneers.
  • Eating Steak With Veneers? If you have porcelain or other types of permanent veneers, you can eat steak. Before eating the meat, cut it into small pieces. Avoid biting into or pulling against the bone itself when eating bone-in steaks (or any other bone-in meat), as this can put unnecessary strain on the veneers and potentially weaken the bonding material prematurely.

Avoid substances that may cause stains

Porcelain veneers are designed to be stain resistant, but that fact isn’t the same for your natural tooth structure. In order to keep your smile looking at its whitest, you should be wary of substances that might stain your veneers, including cigarettes, coffee, soda, red wine, tea, berries, and beets. If you do enjoy one of these items, be sure to brush and floss your teeth immediately afterwards to minimize the likelihood that stains will develop.

Protect your Teeth when playing sports

Do you play sports or other contact activity in which the health of your teeth might be at risk? If so, you will want to wear a mouth guard or other form of protection to ensure that your veneers are safe. Basketball, football, wrestling, and other contact sports may put your beautiful new smile in danger. By protecting your teeth from potential trauma, you are saving yourself a lot of pain, not to mention the cost that would be required to repair your smile.

Quit Grinding

Many people suffer from tooth grinding, whether they realize it or not. Tooth grinding, otherwise known as bruxism, is a serious issue involving the clenching and shifting of the teeth during sleep. If you continue to grind your teeth without seeking treatment, you can damage your porcelain veneers. Damage may also occur to your original teeth and the jaw joint, so if you suspect that you are a night time grinder, consult with your dentist about treatment options. He or she may fit you for a night time mouth guard that can help to protect your teeth from the damaging effects of grinding.

Avoid Too much Alcohol

Consuming lots of alcoholic drinks will soften the bonding composites holding the veneers to your teeth. While this doesn’t mean the veneers will come loose, it will make the bonding line more prone to damage, deterioration, and stains. Alcohol is not found just in beverages though. When buying mouthwash or toothpaste, check the ingredient list to see if they contain alcohol as these can be just as damaging as liquor.

Bottom Line

Now that you’ve learnt how to provide care to your veneers, it’s time to put your newfound knowledge to test. If you follow the tips provided above, your transition should be easy. With just some minor adjustments to your daily oral hygiene routine, you can provide your dental veneers with the necessary care they need. With just some little help from your dentist, your dental veneers should last for many years to come.

Can Porcelain Veneers Last Forever?

Porcelain veneers can last a lifetime if properly maintained. This, however, should not be the expectation. In most cases, your veneers will need to be replaced once or twice during your lifetime. The good news is that the replacement is simple. The old veneer is simply removed, new impressions of the tooth are taken to send to a lab, and the new veneer is placed as soon as it is ready. Minor preparation may be required.
If a porcelain veneer cracks or becomes damaged, it will almost always need to be replaced. In most cases, broken porcelain veneers cannot be repaired to their original condition. Fortunately, this type of damage is rare.

When Should Veneers Be Replaced?

When your porcelain veneer reaches the end of its lifespan or breaks, it must be replaced.

Here are a few indicators that it’s time to replace your veneers:

• They begin to look dull and no longer shine like the surrounding teeth

• The veneers become discoloured

• They show physical signs of wear

• They become cracked or chipped

• The bonding cement becomes loose or the veneers begin to lift

You notice signs of gum recession.

If you go to your bi-annual dental appointments on a regular basis, your dentist should be able to tell when it’s time to replace—even if you haven’t noticed any problems yet.
When the time comes, the dentist will carefully remove the old veneer as well as a thin layer of enamel. Then they’ll take impressions for your replacement veneer and fit you with a temporary veneer until the new restoration is finished. The new veneer will then be bonded to your tooth in the same manner as before.
If your tooth no longer has enough enamel to support a new veneer, your dentist may suggest a crown instead.

Can Dental Veneers Break or Fracture?

Veneers are made to be durable, but they are not indestructible. Veneers, like any other type of dental restoration (or natural teeth), can chip and break. The likelihood of a break is determined by the type of veneers used. Porcelain veneers are extremely durable and can last 15 to 20 years; composite veneers typically last less than 10 years and are more prone to breakage.

What Causes Veneer Breakage?

A veneer can break or  crack for a variety of reasons.

• As a result of improper design or placement

• As a result of grinding your teeth on a regular basis

• As a result of biting into hard foods such as ice or jawbreakers (especially on a regular basis)
• As a result of a direct blow to the face

• As a result of tooth decay behind the veneer

• Debonding (when the veneer separates from the tooth without physically breaking)

When you receive your veneers, your cosmetic dentist should provide you with detailed care instructions, ensuring that your new restorations last as long as possible.

What to Do With a Broken Veneer

If your veneer breaks, the first thing you should do is contact your dentist. You should try to visit within 48 hours, preferably sooner.
You must collect the broken veneer fragments and wrap them in a clean cloth or other soft, protective covering. Then put it in a safe place and bring it with you to the dentist. They will be able to advise you on the best course of action.

The majority of porcelain veneers cannot be repaired.

If the veneer is made of porcelain, a replacement will usually be required. The procedure for obtaining a replacement veneer is similar to that for obtaining the original veneer.
Your new restoration will require impressions, X-rays, and preparation by the dentist. If there haven’t been any significant changes to the tooth structure, you shouldn’t need to have it filed again. All you’ll need is the initial fitting and installation.

Porcelain Veneers Can Be Saved In Some Cases

There are a few cases where the original porcelain veneer can be saved.
Small chips, for example, can sometimes be smoothed out with dental contouring.
Furthermore, if the veneer is still intact but becomes loose, the dentist may be able to re-adhere it. This type of debonding can occur when a foreign substance (such as sticky foods) becomes lodged between the veneer and the tooth, weakening the bond. This could be a problem if the restoration was not properly bonded in the first place.

How to Prevent Your Veneers From Breaking

Assuming your veneers fit properly and are of high quality, you can keep them in good condition by following a few simple procedures:

• Schedule regular cleanings and check-ups with your dentist. You should see your dentist at least twice a year, once for a general check-up and once for a deep cleaning.
• Avoid eating hard foods. Crunchy foods such as tortilla chips are acceptable, but hard candy and ice cubes should be avoided.
• Avoid compulsive chewing habits, such as chewing on pencils. This is related to the previous point.
• Avoid grinding your teeth. If you have a habit of clenching or grinding your teeth while sleeping, you may benefit from wearing a mouthguard at night. Grinding can cause porcelain to deteriorate over time.

• Brush and floss your teeth after every meal, or at least twice a day. Gum disease can cause the gums to recede, causing the veneers to be damaged. Use a toothbrush with soft bristles, preferably an electric brush. Your toothpaste should also be non-abrasive and preferably veneer-safe. A specific product may be recommended by your dentist.

Remember that, while porcelain is extremely durable and long-lasting, veneers are not indestructible. So take extra care of them, and they’ll serve you well for years to come.

Porcelain Veneers FAQ and Cost -Best Cosmetic dentist in Melbourne CBD City 3000 Victoria Australia

Below you will find our most common Porcelain Veneer FAQs

Porcelain Veneers FAQ 1

What Exactly Are Veneers?

Veneers are thin shields of ceramic (porcelain) or composite resin material that are custom-made and bonded to the front surface of a tooth to improve aesthetics or protect the tooth from surface damage. They can be affixed to one or more teeth.

Porcelain Veneers FAQ 2

Does Getting Porcelain Veneers Hurt?

Getting porcelain veneers is a painless procedure. After porcelain veneers are applied, they should look and function like natural teeth, and you should not experience any pain. When performing any dental procedure, we prioritise our patients’ comfort, and most patients describe the experience as painless. For patients who are particularly concerned about pain or discomfort, we offer sedation dentistry.

Porcelain Veneers FAQ 3

Are Porcelain Veneers Durable?

Before placing porcelain veneers, the right dentist will conduct a thorough examination to ensure that your teeth are healthy and strong enough. They will use high-quality materials that will not deteriorate or stain over time. If you get porcelain veneers from a qualified and experienced dentist, you should not need new ones for up to 20 years.

Porcelain Veneers FAQ 4

Do Porcelain Veneers Look Realistic?

Porcelain veneers look almost identical to natural teeth—so natural, in fact, that onlookers won’t know the difference. A highly experienced dentist will also work with you to select the exact shade of your porcelain veneers so that they match the surrounding teeth. If you want Zoom! laser teeth whitening, you should do that first, and then match the veneers to your whitened teeth.

Porcelain Veneers FAQ 5

How Many Porcelain Veneers Will I Need?

Cosmetic dentistry is all about assisting you in achieving your ideal smile. The number of veneers you require will be determined by your personal goals, the condition of your current teeth and your budget. If you only need one veneer to cover a chipped or discoloured tooth, you may only need one. If you have a particularly gummy smile or want a complete smile makeover, you may want to consider getting multiple veneers or even a full set of veneers.

Porcelain Veneers FAQ 6

Do Porcelain Veneers Affect How You Speak?

Following the placement of dental veneers, you will be able to eat, drink, and speak normally while enjoying a radiant smile. The shape of your natural teeth is only slightly altered to make room for the veneers, so veneer-covered teeth do not protrude or feel awkward in your mouth. Anyone who works in public speaking should not be concerned—veneers should only help you succeed!

Porcelain Veneers FAQ 7

Do Veneers necessitate the filing of teeth?

A little filing is usually required with standard porcelain and composite veneers to ensure that the veneer blends naturally with the surrounding teeth.  The dentist can ensure that the veneer blends naturally with the surrounding teeth by slightly filing the front of the tooth.

The front of the tooth is only filed down. The procedure is simple, and it is usually completed during a preliminary appointment before the veneers are bonded to the teeth. Other options are available for patients who do not want to have their teeth filed for veneers.

Porcelain Veneers FAQ 8

Is it Possible to Avoid Having Your Teeth Shaved?

If you want veneers but aren’t comfortable having your teeth filed, there are other options. In most cases, no-prep veneers can be fused over natural teeth without the need for filing.

The most well-known example of no-prep veneers is Lumineers. They are thinner than standard porcelain veneers, so they will not be noticeable when placed against natural teeth. The disadvantage is that because they are so thin, they do not last as long. With proper care, a no-prep veneer may last only 5 to 7 years.

Furthermore, no-prep veneers are not suitable for everyone. These ultra-fine coverings necessitate a specific mouth shape and exceptionally healthy teeth.
If you decide to go with Lumineers or another type of no-prep veneer, make sure to work with a reputable cosmetic dentist who is experienced with these installations. Lumineers require an especially advanced level of skill due to their thin, delicate construction.

Porcelain Veneers FAQ 9

Are Veneers a Good Option for You?

If you’re thinking about getting veneers, consider the following:

• Do your teeth have cosmetic flaws that whitening alone cannot correct?
• Is the structure of your teeth sound? (If not, crowns may be a better option than veneers.)

• Do you want a brighter, more luminous smile?

If you answered yes to all of the above questions, you may be a candidate for veneers. The teeth filing portion of the preparation is a quick and easy part of the procedure, so don’t let it deter you—just make sure to work with an experienced dentist.

Porcelain Veneers FAQ 10

How Long Do They Last?

Porcelain veneers have traditionally been known to have a lifespan of 10 to 15 years. However, with proper care, your porcelain veneers can last up to 20 years. Other types of permanent veneers cannot compete with this level of durability.

To get the most out of your veneers, make sure you do the following:

• A skilled dentist places the veneers (improper placement can cause the veneers to crack).
• The veneers are properly maintained
• The teeth beneath are strong and healthy.
• You go to the dentist for cleanings and checkups twice a year.

If you decide to go with a less durable alternative, you’ll need to replace your dental veneers far more often. Consider that composite veneers last 3 to 7 years on average while no-prep veneers (like Lumineers) last 10 to 15 years with proper care and the optimal oral hygiene routine.

Porcelain Veneers FAQ 11

Are Porcelain Veneers Harmful to Your Teeth?

Many patients are concerned about porcelain veneers’ safety. After all, what’s the point of having long-lasting veneers if they can potentially damage the teeth? The good news is that when placed by a qualified, highly experienced dentist, porcelain veneers are completely safe.

Much of the anxiety revolves around the preparation process. A thin layer of enamel must be shaved off the teeth to prepare them for veneers. This enables the veneer to be placed flush with the other teeth.

Most of the time, the dentist only needs to remove a razor-thin layer of enamel from the front of the tooth, usually about.5mm. The procedure is simple and quick, and it has no effect on the tooth root or cause physical damage to the tooth. A local anaesthetic is typically used by the dentist to reduce discomfort during this portion of the procedure.

The tooth is actually better protected after the new veneer is cemented onto it than it was before the veneer placement. Any discomfort from the initial tooth shaving will go away after a few days, and you will be no more prone to tooth decay, gum disease, or tooth loss than you were before the veneer placement.

Porcelain Veneers FAQ 12

Porcelain Veneers FAQ 13

Can Veneers Be Used on Bad Teeth?

Veneers cannot be applied to teeth that are rotten or decaying. Veneers are purely cosmetic restorations used to enhance the appearance of healthy teeth. Cavities and other types of tooth decay must be treated first, or else the problem will worsen.

If you want to improve the appearance of a damaged or weak tooth, a crown is a better option. It provides the desired aesthetic while also providing structural reinforcement for the tooth. We use all-ceramic or all-porcelain crowns at our practise because they match the natural colour of the teeth much better than other crowns and look remarkably natural.

Porcelain Veneers FAQ 14

Is it possible to replace veneers?

The good news is that dental veneers are replaceable. The procedure for replacing veneers is similar to that for placing new veneers. If your tooth is not severely damaged, placing a new veneer should only require two visits.

Dental veneers necessitate precise measurements and specialised techniques in order to produce a functional product with long-term results. They also necessitate an expert eye in order to create veneers that look like natural teeth rather than replacements that are easily visible when you smile.

Veneer replacement is unavoidable, but it does not have to be frequent. You can wear your veneers proudly for years to come if you take preventive measures and work with an exceptional dental provider.

Porcelain Veneers FAQ 15

Alternative to dental veneers

Cosmetic dentistry offers several other procedures that can help to freshen up your smile for young people and those who do not want to get dental veneers:

• Tooth discoloration: Laser tooth whitening may be used to lighten and brighten your natural teeth.
• Short or chipped teeth: Composite dental bonding can be used to fill small chips and lengthen short teeth.
• Crooked teeth or large gaps between teeth: Invisalign can straighten your teeth without the use of traditional braces.

Porcelain veneers are not recommended if your teeth are decayed, as they are a cosmetic rather than a restorative treatment. Consider placing porcelain inlays and onlays, as well as a porcelain crown or bridge, to restore the compromised teeth and create the smile of your dreams.

Porcelain Veneers FAQ 16

How many veneers are there in a full set?

A full set of dental veneers typically consists of 8-10 veneers. Because these restorations are intended to be cosmetic rather than structural, they are reserved for the upper jaw’s eight to tenth most visible teeth: the central and lateral incisors, canines, and the premolars.

Naturally, not everyone will require an entire set of eight veneers. These thin shells are intended to conceal tooth flaws and can be applied to teeth that are cracked, chipped, discoloured, or out of alignment.

You may only require one or two veneers depending on the condition of your teeth. If you have significant aesthetic flaws covering most or all of your body, a full set is generally recommended, covering most or all of your visible upper teeth.

Note that porcelain veneers are not designed for weak, decaying, or significantly fractured teeth. They’re designed for healthy teeth with aesthetic imperfections. Your dentist can take X-rays, assess the health of your teeth, and help you to determine if this procedure is right for you.

Porcelain Veneers FAQ 17

How Much Do Full-Mouth Porcelain Veneers Cost?

If the initial cost of veneers appears to be prohibitively expensive, it is important to note that an affordable financing option is almost certainly available.

The majority of patients do not pay the entire cost up front. Rather, they collaborate with their dentist to develop a convenient and manageable payment plan with the assistance of a third-party financing partner.

Some patients will also look for less expensive types of veneers, such as composite resin veneers. Because composite veneers cost between $350 and $700 per tooth, this can potentially save a lot of money.

Alternative Options to porcelain Veneer

When choosing between composite and porcelain veneers, however, composite is clearly the inferior option. This is especially important if you’re considering a life-changing full set of veneers.

• Because composite materials don’t last nearly as long as porcelain, you’re not saving as much as you think when the lifetime cost of ownership is considered.
• Composite veneers are more prone to chipping and breaking, requiring additional repair costs in the future.
• Composite resin veneers are far less stain-resistant, so even if you get the longest possible life out of them, they won’t look as good after a couple of years.
• Resin composite does not appear as natural as porcelain over time; porcelain is the closest thing to natural tooth.

When restoring your entire smile, you don’t want to compromise with cheaper materials.

Porcelain Veneers FAQ 18

Will Porcelain Veneers Be Covered by Insurance?

Porcelain veneers are not covered by standard insurance policies. A veneer is a cosmetic procedure used to improve the appearance of a person’s smile. Because it is not required to replace, protect, or preserve teeth, most insurance companies do not consider it necessary.

There are an increasing number of full-coverage dental plans that pay for procedures not traditionally covered by dental insurance, but there are a few things to consider:

• Not all full-service dental plans cover veneers; many will cover preventive but not cosmetic procedures, so carefully read the fine print.
• Many full-service dental plans will require you to be a policyholder for a certain period of time (usually one to two years) before you can receive benefits  for non-emergency and non-routine dental procedures.

• Full-service dental plans can be significantly more expensive than standard insurance.
So, if you decide to pursue non-traditional dental plans, do your research so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Porcelain Veneers FAQ 19

Is it worthwhile to pay for full-mouth porcelain veneers?

Only you and your cosmetic dentist can decide whether a full set of porcelain veneers is right for you. If you have healthy teeth but want to improve your smile, full-mouth porcelain veneers may be the best option.

Yes, the initial investment can be substantial, but most dental offices offer financing options, and the results can be completely transformative. Determine for yourself whether you are prepared to take the next step.

Factors that affect the final Cost of Porcelain Veneers?

The cost of porcelain veneers depends on the individual cosmetic dentist, their location, and how many veneers you want to be placed. Included in the price are the initial consultation, the preparation of the teeth, and the placement of the custom veneers on your teeth.

The main factors that affect the final cost of dental veneers will vary for many reasons, including the:

Porcelain Veneers FAQ and Cost, Melbourne CBD City 3000 Victoria Australia
  • The number of veneers required: the price of veneer is per tooth so the more you have the higher the cost.
  •  Type of material used :  Veneers are made of either porcelain or composite resin, and the cost of porcelain veneers (e.g., Lumineers or Ultrathin) is more expensive than composite veneers (same day veneers).
  • The technique of Porcelain veneer fabrications (eg., Prepless or no grinding, Minimally prepped to full traditonal prepped veneers)
  • Your dental health : the cost of your veneer treatment will also take into consideration if you require some additional treatment for any other dental issues before we can start with the veneer fitting.

Porcelain Veneers FAQ 21

What are Material risk involved with getting Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are like a new set of teeth that can be used to transform your smile into something you’ll love. Veneers cover the front surface of teeth, and by doing so, they’re able to hide any imperfections or give them a more uniform shape.

The process is generally safe and effective if done correctly by highly experienced dental professionals. Still, as with any medical procedures, any dental treatment including Porcelain veneers procedure,  carries risks, some minor and some serious. Some are remote possibility and some are closer possibility. If we suspect that you will have any of the risk mentioned below, we will inform you during your consultation or before you make a decision to go ahead with the treatment to help you fully informed.

You should consider these minimal risks involved with porcelain veneer treatment and side effects. Although these are not life-threatening with proper care, they can be avoided.

Things outlined below are things to expect about the procedure and its material risks:

1.Non-reversible

Veneers are not removable, they are put on with the intention that they are never coming off. Admittedly most people who choose to have veneers are looking for a permanent solution to their cosmetic problems, but don’t be fooled into thinking you can just have them popped off at a moment’s notice and be back to square one. Once you have porcelain veneers, you will always need them.

2.Reduction or roughening of tooth structure if you choose traditional or Prepped Porcelain Veneer

In preparing the teeth for the placement of an indirect restoration, it may be necessary to slightly reduce or roughen the surface of the tooth to which it may be bonded. This preparation will be done as conservatively as possible. If the prostheses breaks or comes off, the uncovered tooth may become more susceptible to decay.

3.Sensitivity of teeth.

Even though in the majority of the cases there is usually no appreciable sensitivity, treatment may cause teeth to become sensitive. This sensitivity is usually transitional and settles within a period of a few days to one month. Should sensitivity persist for any length of time, please contact this office for an examination.

4.Chipping, breaking, loosening or debonding of the restoration.

No matter how well the prostheses is placed, this could occur. Many factors may contribute to this happening, including chewing of excessively hard materials, changes in occlusal (biting) forces, traumatic blows to the mouth, breakdown of the bonding agents and other conditions such as clenching and grinding, as well as Sleep Apnoea (stress or sleep related) over which the doctor has no control. A protective night Splint/Guard is essential to protect the work done.

5.Sensitive or allergic reactions of soft tissues to whitening, bleaching or bonding agents.

This is an unusual occurrence. The gums or soft tissues of the mouth, which may be exposed to the various agents used in these procedures, may exhibit an allergic response. Also, gum tissues may in some cases exhibit signs of inflammation. Should this occur, please contact this office to be examined.

6.Aesthetics/appearance.

Every effort possible will be made to match and coordinate both the form and shade of the restorations and/or bonding agents to be cosmetically pleasing to the patient. However, there are some differences that may exist between the natural dentition and the artificial materials, making it impossible to have the exact shade and/or form to perfectly match your natural dentition. This is applicable if you are having few veneers or doing one arch/upper teeth only. This will not apply on multi-unit Veneers. We will recommend ways to prevent this from happening during your consultation.

7. Periodontal (Gum) status.

Your gums don’t automatically adjust to any foreign material that you put in your teeth. That’s why it’s so essential for you not just to expect but prepare yourself for the fact that it may take a while before they do. There is always some chance of gum tissue inflammation or discomfort, and if left untreated, it may lead to gum disease, as your gums can be a little stubborn when it comes to adjusting themselves around foreign objects. It might take time, and there will sometimes be an adjustment period where everything feels different and strange. This explains why the possible risk of soreness and inflamed soft tissues between your gum line occurs.

Periodontal disease can occur at any age, with or without crowns, fixed bridges or implants. Properly designed veneers, crowns and bridges aid in its prevention, as does good oral hygiene, regular cleaning and dental examinations, a healthy diet, and good general health. Prior to treatment, the health of the gums must be controlled to prevent unwanted bone and gums loss, as well as maintain a healthy working environment during treatment.

8. Root Canal Treatment.

For placement of veneer on a healthy tooth with no history of trauma or deep decay, this risk is very remote.

But sometimes the need for a root canal filling may not become apparent until after the restorations have been placed or during treatment. A root canal filling replaces the dental pulp, the innermost part of the tooth. This treatment becomes necessary when the pulp is irreversibly injured or infected from the cumulative effects of cavities, fillings or cracks in the teeth. It normally can be performed without remaking the prosthesis. However, in some instances, the longevity of the prosthesis may be compromised and will be necessary.

In a worst scenario that the tooth becomes non-vital, then Root canal treatment may need to be perform.

9. Provisional/Temporary Restorations.

Are used to protect the teeth and provide a satisfactory appearance while the new restorations are being fabricated. They are not as strong as the final porcelain/metal restorations, and are attached to the teeth with a relatively weak cement to facilitate their removal at subsequent appointments. Therefore, it is important to minimize the chewing pressure on provisional restorations since they can be easily fractured and dislodged.

10. Temporomandibular Dysfunction.

Restoration of teeth inevitably changes the occlusion (bite). On rare occasions, the change may precipitate TMD symptoms, even if it technically improves the occlusion.

11. Discomfort

Dental veneers are a great way to get the smile you have always wanted, but it may take some time for your mouth and teeth to adjust.

Although most patients experience minimal to no pain, some patients have a day or two to adjust after receiving their dental veneers. They may experience discomfort during this time, but it should subside quickly.

12. Longevity.

All the treatment materials used in dentistry, may it be Porcelain Veneer, Crown, bridges, filling, dental bonding have associated lifespan. Nothing last forever. Just like with anything else, they are also subjected to wear and tear, thus require maintenance or replacement. This means that at some point in the future, you have to prepare to get repaired or replaced.

Longevity of certain restorations will much depends on how you look after your teeth and gums and how you follow our recommended guidelines on looking after your restorations.

13. Adjustment period

Each patient will have a unique adjustment period timeline. Some patients report zero side effects following their cosmetic procedure. Others require days or even weeks to fully adjust.

Right after placement, your mouth can feel strange as you slowly become used to the dimensions of your newly enhanced teeth.

Whenever you receive new dental restorative or cosmetic work that slightly alters the shape, size, or placement of your teeth or gums, your mouth is extremely sensitive to the change.

Veneers are no different; veneers alter the width, height, shape, and alignment of teeth, which can completely change how your front teeth feel. You may find your tongue running over your new veneers constantly, as it discovers the shape of your new smile.

For most patients, the adjustment period for porcelain veneers lasts about two weeks. There will be gradual improvements in these issues each day during this brief adjustment process.

After two weeks have passed, most patients should feel just fine with their porcelain veneers in place. They will hardly notice that they have undergone cosmetic dental work.

The First Few Days

More often than not, your new veneers may feel slightly larger than the natural teeth they cover. This feature allows your new porcelain attachments to reshape your teeth in an aesthetically pleasing manner. Shortly after your veneers are placed, you may notice that your tongue and inner cheeks can feel the features of your porcelain shells. These will be momentary distractions that will fade over the following days.

Some patients report heightened sensitivity to heat and cold. This sensitivity may be most noticeable when eating ice cream, for example. A small number of patients report that their speech is slightly impeded due to the porcelain veneers. This is no different than what our patients report after having braces or another attachment or prosthetic placed. Any chance to the surface of the teeth can require that your palate readjusts.

What If I Still Have Veneer Adjustment issues?

If you still have issues with your porcelain veneers more than two weeks after getting them, it’s a good idea to discuss these matters with us. Various treatments and adjustments can be discussed as needed to ensure your smile is healthy and you’re happy with the results of treatment.

Are Veneers Worth It?

In the modern world, appearance is everything, and cosmetic dentistry has become very popular. It’s an area that people are willing to invest money in because they want their teeth to look good or even transform from being discoloured, crooked or simply have a confident, beautiful smiles.

Having a beautiful smile can give you more confidence and leave a great impression on others.

Dental veneers are a big investment, and they can offer many benefits to patients. Many of these benefits are life-changing and outweigh any remote material risk and possible complications involved in transforming your smile with Veneers.

For lots of people, Cosmetic Dentistry treatment are undoubtedly worth the price. A beautiful smile can help people feel confident about their appearance and boost their self-esteem, making the treatment invaluable.

What are Porcelain Veneers?

Think of Porcelain Veneers as a thin, durable mask that can be applied to your natural teeth. Once applied to your teeth, the veneers instantly change the appearance of your teeth. Depending on how they are made, veneers can whiten your teeth, change the shape of your teeth, close large gaps, fix chips or cracks, and cover up the appearance of crooked teeth.

Veneers are made of a very thin shell of porcelain. The porcelain is carefully selected so it matches the look and colour of your teeth.

Each veneer used will be customized by your dentist for your mouth. Dentists will customize everything from the length and width of the veneer to the overall shape, thickness, and colour.

When applying veneers, your dentist will need to do some minor prep work to your natural teeth. Part of the preparation involves removing a small amount of the enamel on your natural teeth. Removing a small amount of enamel allows your dentist to bond the veneer to your teeth in such a way that it has a very natural appearance.

Who are not a good candidate for Dental Veneers

Who are  a Good Candidate for Porcelain Veneers?

Veneers are a great cosmetic dental treatment option for many people. If you are considering getting veneers, the following are several signs that indicate you may be a good candidate for this type of treatment:

  • Desire to fix severely discoloured or stained teeth – veneers can remove discolouration or stains on your teeth that tend not to respond to traditional teeth whitening treatment
  • Desire to correct stains from extensive tooth decay or old fillings
  • Need to correct minor imperfections on your teeth – veneers can easily fix cracks, misshaped teeth, and chips
  • Desire to correct several cosmetic issues with your teeth at once – veneers can whiten, straighten, and correct the shape of a single tooth or set of teeth all in one procedure
  • Good oral health – patients must have healthy gums and teeth. If your gums and teeth are not healthy, you can undergo treatment to improve their health which may then make you a good candidate for veneers.
  • Sufficient tooth enamel must be present – your natural teeth need to have enough enamel left after the small layer has been removed to create a strong bonding surface for the veneer
  • Straight or moderately straight teeth – veneers can correct slightly crooked or misaligned teeth. However, if your teeth are severely misaligned it could put too much pressure the veneers and cause them to crack.
  • Ability to avoid chewing on your nails, crunching hard candy or food, or gnawing on pens – these bad habits can damage veneers.
  • Do not suffer from night time teeth grinding or teeth clenching
  • Practice good oral hygiene on a regular basis – this includes regular brushing and flossing as well as regular appointments with your dentist for routine cleanings

The only way to see if you are a good candidate for veneers is to have us assess your case.

Who are not a Good Candidate for Porcelain Veneers?

When Porcelain veneers shouldn’t be used.

There can be situations where certain teeth, or even certain people, are not good candidates for this procedure. Some areas of concern are:

Veneers don’t make the right choice for teeth that need strengthening.

a) Teeth that need strengthening.

Teeth that have lost a significant amount of structure due to wear, decay or fracture, and those that have large fillings don’t make good candidates for porcelain laminates.

That’s because veneers do not strengthen teeth, they only improve their appearance. And as mentioned above, if the tooth on which one has been placed is not rigid enough to prevent flexure, it may ultimately crack or break.

In this type of situation, the dental crown placement makes the more appropriate choice.

b) Teeth with little enamel.

A porcelain veneer won’t stay in place well unless it’s primarily bonded to tooth enamel. Here’s why.

  • When it’s bonded onto the enamel, the enamel is the more rigid of the two and it tends to absorb most of the forces applied to the tooth.
  • When bonded directly to dentin (the layer underneath the enamel), the laminate is the stiffer object and any forces directed to the tooth tend to become focused in it. This can lead to veneer fracture or debonding.

Some teeth may have little or no enamel remaining on their front surface due to:

1) Tooth wear or trauma.

2) The placement of previous dental restorations.

3) Erosion – Tooth wear caused by exposure to acidic foods and beverages, regurgitation of gastric acid, etc…

If so, they don’t make good candidates. A dental crown would make the more appropriate choice for these teeth.

c) Excessive forces are involved.

People who clench and grind their teeth (referred to as bruxism by dentists), or have a bite where their front teeth come together edge-to-edge, don’t make good candidates for porcelain veneers.

The level of forces generated by these conditions can be substantial and can cause laminates to chip, break or debond. One study (Beier 2012) found that a habit of bruxism increased the failure rate of a subject’s veneers by a factor of 8.

As a measure against fracture, construction using a comparatively stronger type of “porcelain” can help (such as aluminium oxide, lithium disilicate, zirconia). The trade-off is that restorations made using these ceramics characteristically have a comparatively less lifelike appearance (similar to our description of dental bonding above).

FAQ ABOUT PORCELAIN VENEERS IN MELBOURNE

Do Porcelain Veneers Damage your Teeth?

The answer is no, veneers do not damage your teeth – as long as you have an experienced dentist install them.

Porcelain veneers are a cosmetic treatment used to fix cracked, discolored, or misshapen teeth. The veneer is a thin layer of ceramic material that covers up the existing tooth to restore its appearance. Veneers look just like regular teeth; once you’ve had them installed, it can be very difficult to tell the difference.

During the installation process, a very small amount of your tooth is removed; this amount is typically as thin as your fingernail. An experienced dentist will be able to remove as little of the tooth as possible while making room for your veneer. Once the tooth is prepped, a small amount of bonding material is applied to the surface. The veneer is then attached to your tooth, and your gums are allowed to heal around it.

Your original tooth remains in place for the entire process. If the veneer was removed, the tooth underneath would still be healthy and usable, although it might not be as pretty as the veneer. Veneers have to be replaced after 7 to 15 years, and the same tooth is used to hold the new veneer. This means your dentist will take great care to make sure that your underlying teeth remain as healthy as possible.

What do Porcelain Veneers feel like?

Porcelain veneers feel natural when in your mouth because impressions are taken from your teeth before the veneers are created, which means that these veneers will match your natural tooth shape and size.

These veneers are also designed to look very similar to real enamel, which ensures that they look natural. Keep in mind that porcelain veneers can be wholly customized around your preferences. The customization options with porcelain veneers include the ability to change the shade and coloir of the veneer as well as the ability to alter the shape of the veneer.

Are there any issues with Porcelain veneers to be aware of?

When one of your teeth has gone through the preparation for a dental veneer, it’s impossible to reverse this process. It’s also difficult to effectively repair a broken veneer, which means that it would need to be replaced if ever it becomes cracked. You have to modify your diet if you like to protect your Porcelain Veneers, biting on hard foods, cracking an ice cube or opening a bottle of beer, is a big NO-No.

What does the Porcelain veneer procedure involve?

You will first need to obtain a consultation from our dentist in Melbourne, which is where impressions will be made of your teeth to make sure that the veneers are the right size and shape. You can also talk more about your expectations for the treatment. The tooth will then go through the preparation process, which means that the tooth will be filed down. You’ll be provided with some temporary veneers while you wait for the final veneers to be placed on your teeth at the next appointment.

The Potential Risks of Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are a great investment that can change your smile and transform your face shape. However, there are risks associated with the procedure. Obviously, the process cannot be undone. Getting veneers is a big decision that requires serious thought. Also, the procedure is expensive and costs more than resin composite bonding. If the veneers crack or chip, they cannot be replaced. Additionally, your teeth may be more sensitive to hot and cold temperatures during the provisionary period while awaiting for your permanent Porcelain Veneers to be cemented..

Another risk is that veneers may not perfectly match the colour of your teeth, should you choose a very white shade. Additionally, the veneer’s colour cannot be changed once it is in place. If you plan on whitening your teeth, be sure to do so before you have the procedure done. Additionally, veneers may not be the best fit or option for people who have dental health issues. For people with gum disease, weak teeth, or even little enamel, veneers are not the best option. Your dentist will consult with you and discuss these risks to ensure that veneers are the best option for your teeth.

Why Veneers are Worth the Investment

Your may ask why Veneers are so expensive! Porcelain veneers are a great option for people who are looking to improve their smile and change their overall face shape. While there can be risks, veneers are certainly worth the investment. A set of veneers can last for 10 to 15 years or more, making them a long term dental investment. Veneers are becoming more and more popular as a way to improve one’s smile and teeth in general.

Many celebrities have gotten veneers, and the general public is slowly beginning to do so as well. Cost can be a barrier, but a beautiful smile is worth the initial cost. If veneers sound like they would be a good fit for you and your dental needs, consult with us today. Getting veneers is a procedure that can greatly improve your smile, your confidence and self-esteem.

How Much Should You Pay for Full Mouth Porcelain Veneers

Cost of full mouth veneers depends on how many veneers you need and what kind of Porcelain Veneer fabrication you choose ie Prepless (No-Grinding) or the Traditional (Prepped) Veneer. It may Range from $7000 to $25000 for a 10 units Porcelain Veneer multiply that by 2, if you want the same amount of Veneers on the lower arch.

Choosing to get teeth veneers can improve your life in a number of ways. Those who get quality teeth veneers often report higher levels of self-esteem than they had before the procedure. It’s no question why. If you think about all the advantages, full mouth veneers cost may well be worth it.

Those with nice teeth are considered more attractive. It’s easy to date with confidence and smile without fear. Employers will judge the teeth of an applicant while they’re sitting in the interview. Bad teeth may set off a sign of poor dental hygiene to them. If you don’t take care of your appearance, how can they trust you to take care of your job? Others are more likely to listen to someone when they show a more confident smile.

The Cost Is What You Want To Know

Nothing in life comes free; however, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t splurge on something that’s going to benefit your life significantly.

What If I Can’t Afford Them?

If you cannot afford your veneers, financing is available to help. Only the very wealthy can afford to pay out of pocket for them. We offers financing so a wide array of people can come out of surgery with good looking teeth. The financing options available can mean paying as little as few hundred dollars a month for a whole set of teeth veneers.

Can I Get Financing?

While financing is available, there are factors in place that will affect your ability to get it and how much you’ll pay every month. You must have at least average credit, is in some sort of working in some capacity  to get financing. And should be an Australian citizen.

Is Porcelain veneers Worth It?

The Main Reason Why People Get Them

People get veneers  mainly from a desire to have a whiter, beautiful and more confident, enhance smile.  Many movie stars get veneers so that their teeth will appear perfect on camera.

Veneers cost less if you do not want a full set of them. Some choose to just get veneers on teeth that are visibly damaged. Full mouth veneers cost is much more expensive then just getting them on your front teeth. If you get them just on your front teeth, the color will not match on the teeth that are less visible. Full mouth veneers cost much more than getting your 12 front teeth done. If you get your 12 front teeth done, you can pay less.

Our Dental Veneer Guarantee Quality

Putting your mouth in the hands of an unskilled dentist can mean setting yourself up for a lifetime or lets say years and years of complications. What is different  is that we have the experience, skill, and artistry to place your porcelain veneers with a minimalist approach to perfection. We take the time to do it right, taking care to remove as little tooth structure as possible—less than the thickness of a fingernail.

This is your smile, and with natural-looking Porcelain dental veneers  you can proudly and confidently own your smile.

What are Lumineers?

You may not be familiar with what Lumineers are and how they can help your teeth. Lumineers provide you with a cosmetic solution for your teeth. They are very thin porcelain veneers that are designed to go over your existing teeth. The Lumineers are glued onto your existing teeth so that cracks and stains can be covered up. The result of the process will give you the shiny white teeth that you want so that your smile improves and you feel better about how it looks.

Why Lumineers are Popular?

What helps to make Lumineers  and other areas today so popular is that they offer a less invasive alternative to porcelain veneers. With Lumineers, there is little to no tooth preparation needed, and none of your existing tooth structure will need to be removed. The Lumineers are bonded to your teeth so that you get the better look you desire. Lumineers also generally take just two office visits to be complete the process, and the treatment can cost less than choosing porcelain veneers, another reason that Lumineers are so popular today.

Lumineers provide dental solutions for the following:

  1. Brighten Stained and Discolored Teeth and Restore Chipped Teeth
  2. Eliminate Spacing and Gaps / Align Crooked Teeth
  3. Reshape Small or Misshapen Teeth / Renew Old Dental Work
  4. Perfect Your Hollywood Smile

How long will Lumineers last?

Clinical tests have proven that teeth LUMINEERS can last and look great for more than 20 years.

What can I expect from my  Lumineers Treatment?

Lumineers offer a quick and painless way to permanently enhance your smile. In just two visits to your dentist, you can have a whiter, healthier, natural-looking smile. During the first appointment, we will take a mould of your teeth, and together you will choose the desired shade of your Lumineer veneers. On the second visit, the doctor will place your Lumineers by bonding them to your existing teeth with a special curing light. That is it! The results will speak for themselves.

What makes Lumineers different from other Veneers?

  • LUMINEERS ® BY CERINATE ® are porcelain tooth veneers that offer the painless way to a permanently whiter and perfectly aligned smile.
  • No shaving: Your LUMINEERS dentist applies these contact lens-thin “smile shapers” to teeth with no grinding or shaving of your original teeth, transforming your teeth in a very short time
  • LUMINEERS can even be placed over existing crown or bridgework without having to replace them
  • Contact lens-thin: They really are very thin and are placed over existing teeth without having to remove painful tooth structure (unlike traditional teeth veneers) LUMINEERS is the painless, permanent cosmetic solution for stained, chipped, discoloured or misaligned teeth.

Can Lumineers be taken off if I wanted them removed?

Yes, Lumineers are completely reversible because there’s no grinding down of healthy tooth structure, in most cases. Your natural teeth are still intact and strong.

The idea that ultra-thin veneers are “reversible” may help to create public demand for this procedure. But it seems true mostly in theory only. Yes, they can be ground off. But it’s not necessarily a quick process, nor is it likely that your tooth will be returned to its initial pristine condition.

The bond that’s been created during the placement process is very strong and the cement that’s been used typically remains stubbornly attached to the tooth’s surface.

It can be trimmed and buffed off. But that’s not necessarily an easy task, especially when a number of teeth are involved. And it has to be expected that the surface of the tooth’s enamel will be shaved and scuffed up at least somewhat during the process.

Advantages of Lumineers

  • A painless cosmetic procedure, teeth structure and shape remains the same in most cases
  • A smile makeovers that are completed in two dentist appointments
  • A single process that can hide stained teeth or tooth erosion in a single process that does not have to be repeated
  • Ultrathin veneer Works around crowns or bridgework, they replicate the natural appearance of enamel
  • Can help fight penetration of bacteria and microorganisms, and avoid further decay
  • Advanced Lumineers are easily reversible
  • It is proven to last for over 20 years with proper veneer care
  • You’ll need only two dentist appointments

Disadvantages of Lumineers?

1) Difficulty in achieving a natural-looking end result

The wafer-thin veneers placed using a no-drilling protocol is often criticized because with some applications they must be made out of comparatively more-opaque porcelain or placed using relatively more-opaque cement, so they are able to adequately mask over the colour of the natural tooth structure that lies underneath.

Why is having opaque veneers a problem?

The whole issue of opaqueness has to do with how natural looking the veneered tooth will end up looking.

Tooth enamel, the part of a tooth that a veneer tries to mimic, is translucent (light is able to pass through it). And a great deal of what gives a tooth its lustrous look has to do with the way light enters into this layer and is then reflected back out.

If a veneer (or veneer/cement combination) doesn’t accurately simulate enamel’s light-handling effect (as in it’s too opaque and keeps light from entering), your tooth’s appearance won’t look quite right. It might look white, but it won’t look perfectly natural.

  • Since it’s so thin, to effectively mask the stained tooth structure that lies underneath the veneer must be made using relatively opaque porcelain.
  • But due to this opaqueness, light will tend to reflect off the veneer’s front surface and not penetrate into it like it does when it strikes enamel
  • Because of this difference in light handling, the veneer won’t look truly lifelike.

2) Potential Tooth bulkiness especially in the gumline area

They may create tooth bulkiness. – No-drill (no tooth preparation) placement can easily result in bulky, over-contoured teeth.

That can make new veneers hard to get used to. It can also make the teeth they’re placed on harder to properly clean.

3. Plaque retention – Periodontal and tooth decay problems.

A primary concern is the amount of thickness added at the gum line.

The underlying problem.

If you bond a porcelain veneer directly onto the untrimmed surface of a tooth it will change the tooth’s contours, in the sense that there will now be a ledge (sometimes referred to as a “speed bump”) right where the veneer ends

Dentists formally refer to this type of change as affecting the “emergence profile” of a tooth, meaning altering its contours in the region where it exits the gums.

This type of over-contouring can:

  • Make it more difficult to remove dental plaque at the gum line.
  • Tend to interfere with the natural cleansing action created by a person’s lips and cheeks as they slide over a tooth’s surface.

In general, under contouring, a dental restoration typically makes a more benign error than over-contouring. And placing no-drill Lumineers® seems to break this rule of thumb.

Problems that may develop.

When dental plaque cannot be adequately removed, issues associated with tooth decay and gum disease may occur. Of the two, experiencing gum problems is the more common occurrence (persistent gingivitis, periodontal disease).

The consequences of either can be problematic to resolve.

  • Repairing cavities frequently means that the restoration must be replaced. In extreme cases, the decay may be so extensive that just replacing the veneer may no longer be an option for the tooth.
  • Treating gum disease can be successful. But any degree of gum recession that occurs (either triggered to the disease process or its treatment) can easily spoil the appearance of an entire set of veneers.

4. An artificial appearance

Placing restorations that create larger, fuller teeth can easily result in a look that’s artificial. In extreme cases, the term having “horse teeth” may certainly apply. Of course, the degree to which this occurs is the key. And toward keeping it to a minimum case selection is always a primary determinant.

Some people don’t care.

Despite this outcome, the convenience and comfort of being able to take advantage of no-drilling/no-shots placement may be so attractive to some people that this is an easy enough trade-off to choose. Having bigger, larger teeth is not a concern as long as they’re whiter and more perfect.

5.  Problems with function

Another area of concern is how the increased size of the veneered teeth will affect the person’s daily activities.

  • Larger teeth can be cumbersome, affect a person’s speech, or even the way they bite into things.
  • Fuller teeth can also change the way a person’s lips are supported by or rest over their teeth. In extreme cases it may be difficult for the person to close their lips together.

Fortunately, over time people tend to adapt to these types of difficulties. It’s just a matter of how extreme the change has been.

6.  Cost

The total amount of treatment time that a dentist must set aside for a no-drill Lumineers® case is less than that needed for conventional veneer placement. (That’s because there’s less work to do during the 1st visit.)

But this cost-savings is at least in part offset by the fact that the dental laboratory bill for the Lumineers® will likely be greater.

Beautiful Smiles with Lumineers Veneers Melbourne CBD | Dental Veneers Melbourne

How Traditional Dental Veneers differ?

Because they are thicker, conventional porcelain veneers can be made out of comparatively more-translucent porcelain, yet they are still able to mask dark tooth structure that lies underneath them.

That means the light will be able to enter into and reflect back out of them in a fashion that truly mimics the lustrous look of a natural tooth.

Also, a thicker laminate generally offers the dental technician more opportunity to incorporate characterization and shading qualities into the veneer itself by way of using different shades of porcelain in its fabrication

A lot of people simply don’t appreciate this difference.

We do have to admit that when it comes to the issue of obtaining a precisely lifelike result, many people just don’t seem to care.

The ease and pain-free advantage that no-drilling/no-shots technique offers simply outweighs the disadvantage of a less than the perfectly natural-looking outcome.

Invisible Braces – Clear Aligners – Invisalign

Invisalign is a breakthrough technology that lets you have the smile you’ve always wanted, without the hassle of braces.

By using a series of clear, invisible braces, removable clear aligners, Invisalign straightens your teeth with results you’ll notice sooner than you think. An Invisalign treatment can take anywhere from 2 – 24 months.

The course of treatment involves changing Invisible Braces or Clear Aligners approximately every two weeks, with each aligner progressively moving your teeth into a more aesthetically pleasing position, until you have a more beautiful smile. The total number of Invisible Braces or Clear Aligners is specific to your smile and determined by our dentists.

If you’re ready for a smile that transforms your appearance, Invisalign may be your perfect answer. It is simply a great way to transform your smile without interfering at all in your day-to-day life or busy schedule.

FAQS

What types of Invisalign or Invisible Braces or Clear Aligners Treatment are there?

There is now a range of Invisalign treatments that cater to different conditions and type of mouths. The type of aligner that may be advised to you will be dependent upon the complexity of your treatment

Invisalign i7

This type of Invisible Braces or Clear Aligners is used in cases where there are minor abnormalities for overcrowding or spacing issues. It can also be used for correction of minor relapse cases. This is particularly good for small aesthetic improvements or where partial treatment is required. You may need up to 7 aligners in total to complete the treatment. Treatment is often limited to the front 8 teeth.

Invisalign Lite

This type of Invisible Braces or Clear Aligners is restricted to a Class 1 case. This is where the bite is considered normal and the upper front teeth overlap the lower front teeth by a small amount. You may need up to 14 aligners in total to complete the treatment.

Invisalign Full

These aligners can be used for most dentition types. The number of Invisible Braces or Clear Aligners will be dependent upon your treatment plan and severity of your condition. Most design features can be used with this type of aligner and it has the greatest degree of flexibility in terms of treatments possible.

Invisalign Teen

Invisalign treatment has multiple uses and is not just for adults. The number of Invisible Braces or Clear Aligners will be dependent upon the complexity of your treatment plan.

Types of Teeth Preparation involves with Invisalign Treatment

In order to maximize the Invisalign treatment for an optimal outcome, we may need to prepare the teeth. The prepared teeth help the Invisible Braces or Clear Aligners to move the teeth as desired into the correct positions.

During your Treatment Planning, we will use special innovations in the software digital technology to plan any preliminary treatment that may be required beforehand. This not only outlines the preparation needed for the teeth but also we will be able to incorporate any specific enhancement features into the design of the aligners as well.

IPR – Inter Promixal Reduction

This preliminary preparation can consist of minimal preparation (maximum 0.5mm) between the teeth to create space for correct alignment and position of teeth. This allows the teeth to fit correctly together and appear straight.

Attachments

This type of teeth preparation involves placing tiny attachments called Optimised Attachments on the outside of your teeth. These are special features unique to Invisalign.

The Optimized Attachments can have “active” surfaces and “inactive” surfaces used to facilitate a specific type of movement. The attachments are small miniature composite pieces that are bonded to the outside of certain teeth. They are tooth coloured and not visible. Once treatment is completed the attachments are removed.

Your dentist will discuss any preparation that needs to be done to your teeth before any treatment commences.

Tooth Movement during Invisalign Treatment

Special activators integrated into the treatment trays apply small forces to the teeth. They are applied gradually over a period of time allowing the teeth to move consecutively and in an orderly fashion.

You will be given numbered aligners that are to be worn sequentially. They move the teeth very slowly so you will be able to see the gradual movement over time as your teeth are correctly aligned.

The treatment components allow the dentist to have more control so that you will achieve an optimal end result. Most common teeth alignment and positional issues can be treated with Invisalign. There is a spectrum of possible treatment ranging from simple movements to more complex treatment plans. Your dentist will advise where you fall in this spectrum and help advise as to the best type of Invisible Braces or Clear Aligners for you.

Do I Need to Wear my Invisible Braces or Clear Aligners All the Time?

In order for the treatment to be effective and occur in a timely fashion, you do need to wear them in your mouth most of the time. We recommend at least for 20-22 hours. However, if you have a special event or perhaps you play a wind instrument, on the advice of your dentist you may be able to take it out for that specific occasion or time. If this has to happen your dentist will advise you how to manage and reactivate your treatment.

How long Do I have to wear the Invisible Braces or Clear Aligners?

You will be given a sequence of aligners to wear. Usually, you will wear each aligner for approximately 2 weeks before changing to the next aligner in the sequence.

You will need a checkup once every 4-6 weeks to make sure everything is going according to plan.

Will I be able to eat my food with it?

Ideally, you should take out all Invisible Braces or Clear Aligners for eating and drinking – unless you are simply sipping cool water. For best results, you must wear your aligners for the required period. Eating with your aligners could damage them.

Will it work for me?

Not only is Invisalign versatile, helping to correct a broad range of dental and orthodontic issues, but it really works. There are over half a million smiles to back that up, however, a confident smile isn’t the only benefit of correcting your dental issues with custom made Invisalign aligners, your health can be positively impacted as well.

Invisalign can correct Overly crowded teeth, widely spaced teeth, crossbite, overbite and underbites.

Reasons why my teeth are Crowded?

  • The jaw bone may be too small so cannot accommodate all the teeth
  • The teeth may be too big so do not fit the “normal” size jaw bone
  • There may be an imbalance between muscles of tongue, cheeks and lips

If you have crooked teeth because there doesn’t seem to be enough space in your mouth, then the dentist will have to create the necessary space. There are several ways to do this, however, the most common way is either to extract some teeth, redesign the arch form or to use a technique called IPR (Inter Proximal Reduction).

In most Invisalign cases we may re-design the arch form or use IPR. The technique of choice will ultimately be dependent on the results of your Orthodontic Examination and the complexity of your specific requirements.

Do I need to expand my arch with Invisalign?

One way of fixing crowded teeth is expanding the bone. But this can involve complex lengthy treatment. However, we can create the illusion of an expanded bone by flaring out the arch form of the teeth to accommodate the width of all the teeth and align them to appear straight.

However, this treatment is very case-specific and if correct teeth width versus arch length is not analyzed the teeth could look flared. Your dentist will be able to advise for your specific case during the assessment.

Should I sleep with my Invisalign Aligners in my mouth?

Yes, you do need to keep them in overnight. However, they are quite stable and highly retentive. Also, many patients find that they are very comfortable.

If I need both upper and lower teeth, will I be able to talk with Invisalign Invisible Braces or Clear Aligners in my mouth?

You will be surprised how easily most people adapt to wearing the Invisalign aligners. You will be able to speak as you normally do with them inside your mouth. Most people even forget that they are wearing them.

Do the Invisible Braces or Clear Aligners hurt?

The treatment is not painful. However, when you first wear the aligners you may feel a slight pressure on your teeth. But this is a good sign as it means that the active components are working to move and correct your teeth.

Will the Invisible Braces or Clear Aligners affect my speech?

Most patients do not have any speech issues. However, some may experience a temporary effect of a slight lisp for a few days. But there are usually no lasting effects.

Would Invisalign correct closing the spaces between my teeth?

Invisalign is an excellent option if you have spaces or gaps between your teeth.

They can be caused by:

  • Gaps because of lost teeth
  • Small spaces between teeth naturally
  • Spaces created by the movement of teeth

The Invisalign aligner simply moves your teeth together closing the gaps. Alternatively, the aligner can be used to create the ideal width of space to allow for an artificial tooth to be placed in the space. Often this technique is used when Implants or bridgework forms part of the treatment plan.

What if I feel I don’t have enough space in my mouth?

Many people may be dissatisfied with the cosmetics of their smile due to the crowding of teeth which consequently leads to crooked teeth. It may appear that there is not enough space in your mouth for all your teeth.

How do I choose between Traditional Braces and Invisalign? How will I know which one is right for me?

There are several factors that can help you decide which type of teeth straightening system is correct for you. A detailed assessment with your dentist will also highlight the best way forward for you.

What if I am not Compliant in wearing my Invisible Braces or Clear Aligners all the time?

Another factor to consider is compliance for wear. If you feel that you are not the type of person to wear the aligners as requested then it may be better that you opt for a bracket and wire system where the total control of the treatment is placed with your dentist. On the other hand, many people who have a time constraint find that the limited number of dental appointments with the aligner system may work better for them. So one choice that governs which system is appropriate for you is how well you will comply with the treatment.

Is it really Invisible?

Invisalign braces are less noticeable than any bracket and wire system (although many are tooth coloured). However, the treatment may take slightly longer to complete.

What do I need to know about Post-Invisalign Treatment Care?

Regardless of whether you have had any treatment, we recommend regular check-ups to make sure your mouth is as healthy as it can be. However, it becomes even more imperative to maintain your routine examination appointments after you have had some dental work done. This allows the dentist to make sure that your treatment is in good condition, thus helping you to maintain a healthy mouth.

What are the retention options do I have?

After you have had your treatment completed you will need to be fitted with a retainer. These help to keep the newly aligned teeth secure in their new positions. The dentist will discuss various options with you.

They include:

  • Conventional Retainer
  • Positional Retainer
  • Vivera Retainer
  • Fixed Retainer

How about Oral Hygiene?

Due to the very nature of these aligners, you are still able to follow your home cleaning regime as advised by your dentist or hygienist throughout the treatment.

An advantage of straightening your teeth is that your teeth end up in a position that aids your ability to clean them properly. However, the technique you will now follow post-treatment to clean your teeth will need to be slightly adjusted. Often due to the placement of a fixed retainer, you will need to use appropriately sized interdental brushes eg. TePe brushes to clean between your teeth. Hence, regular flossing will not be as efficient on the teeth fixed by the retainer.

What if I need Dental work during the Invisalign Treatment?

After treatment most dentistry occurs in the usual manner. Your Invisalign or any orthodontic treatment will not prevent the dentist from carrying out most dental treatments as and when they are required. The hygienist is also skilled in gum treatments without being inhibited by your teeth or any fixed retainers placed on your teeth.

Going forward, after any treatment, your dentist will be able to advise your of your specific customized post-treatment care program.

Lenght of Treatment

Due to the very slow gradual movement of the teeth, Invisalign treatment may take slightly longer to complete. Treatment can range anything from 3- 24 months. Most bracket and wire systems are often completed within 3 – 9 months.

Number of appointments with Invisalign

Most short-term adult orthodontic bracket and wire treatments require 4-6 weekly appointments. These appointments are to make any necessary adjustments to allow the teeth to move gradually into the correct alignment. On the other hand Invisalign treatments often require fewer appointments since multiple aligning trays are given to the patient at one visit. You are then able to change the trays yourself. This change of trays applies the necessary forces to move the teeth gradually into the correct alignment. Hence, if you are unable to visit the dentist regularly then Invisalign would be a great treatment choice.

Is it Comfortable?

Invisalign Invisible Braces or Clear Aligners are very comfortable to wear since there are no brackets or wires irritating the gums, lips and mouth.

It will be able to advise as to the most appropriate choices for you.

Prevention of Relapse

After your treatment has been completed your dentist will place a fixed retainer in your mouth on the inside surfaces of the front 4-6 teeth of the arch that has been treated.

On most patients, we also create a removable retainer that looks similar to the clear aligner but is made of a stronger material. This specific retainer is called Vivera and is constructed using a special technology that helps the retainer to be more rigid. Most traditional retainers are prone to relapse of treatment if they are not kept in the correct condition.

Vivera Retainers

This is a removable retainer designed by Invisalign that is usually worn at night to prevent any relapse of your treatment. It can be used after any type of teeth straightening treatment and is not restrictive to Invisalign and is used for most orthodontic cases. It is made from a specially patented material which is proven to be 30% stronger than most other leading clear retainer types.

Often Vivera is used as additional support for a fixed retainer such as a Bonded Lingual wire (wire bonded to front teeth on the inside). This forms a belt and braces approach to prevention of any relapse and ensuring the longevity of the treatment.

How long after the treatment do I have to keep wearing my retainers?

As an adult, you will need to wear your retainers inevitably. This is to prevent any relapse of treatment. The removable retainer is often worn at night only.

Alternative options to Invisible Braces- Clear Aligner

In a procedure known as “Instant Orthodontics,” we use porcelain veneers to instantly straighten crooked teeth.

With “Instant Orthodontics,” we can give adult patients the beautiful, straight, white teeth they’ve always wanted in as few as two visits.

Many patients are unaware that an alternative to traditional orthodontic treatment exists. Our patients are frequently relieved to learn that we can almost instantly improve the appearance of crooked teeth, correct misshapen teeth, or fill in gaps between teeth. Porcelain veneers are applied to our Melbourne patients’ teeth to eliminate the appearance of crooked or misshapen teeth in an average of 2-4 dental appointments.

Instant Orthodontics is a smile makeover that can accomplish much more than orthodontics. While orthodontia can reposition your existing teeth with braces over 18-24 months, it cannot change the colour, size, or shape of your existing teeth.

When you use porcelain veneers to straighten your teeth, you gain several benefits over traditional orthodontic methods, including:

  • Quick results: Braces and other similar procedures can take months, if not years, to complete. Rather than gradually shifting teeth into place, veneers produce an entirely new smile. We can take impressions of your teeth, prepare them for veneers, and finally place your veneers in just two dental visits. Both visits can usually be scheduled within a few weeks.
  • Braces will only improve straightness, whereas porcelain veneers will improve virtually every aesthetic quality. While teeth are straightened, stains, cracks, and undersized teeth can be conveniently hidden, and the quality of porcelain ensures that future imperfections can be avoided more easily.
