All the things you need to know about Anti-Aging Smile Rejuvenation
Anti-Aging Dentistry: Your Long-Lasting, Non-Surgical Facelift
Anti-Aging Smile Rejuvenation | Cosmetic Dental Facelift
The hands of time can be unfair, making you look older than you truly are or are at heart.
Cosmetic procedures like Botox® and lip injections can help you restore your youthful appearance, but only temporarily. These require repeat treatments, quickly adding up in costs.
If you wanted to reverse signs of aging permanently, you would have to undergo plastic surgery…
That is, until now!
So, what is this too-good-to-be-true treatment?
Let’s find out!
What is anti-aging dentistry?
First, let’s understand the ways your smile changes as you age:
- Gums recede
- Teeth yellow
- You lose teeth
- Teeth shift
- Teeth wear down
- Outdated dental work needs replacing
- Lose bone mass
- Less saliva = more dental problems
Your teeth are the foundation for your face. When that foundation begins to crumble, it creates a ripple effect on the rest of your face, such as lips sagging, fine lines appearing, a sunk-in look, etc.
How does anti-aging dentistry make you look younger?
Anti-aging dentistry uses cosmetic dental procedures to change the way your teeth support your facial structure and give you a younger-looking smile.
It’s a non-surgical facelift with long-lasting results!
Some anti-aging dentistry procedures could include:
- Porcelain Veneers
- Same-Day Crowns
- Bonding
- Non-Metal Fillings
- Dental Implants
- Teeth Whitening
Your treatment plan may consist of one or more of the above, depending on your unique case.
How do these treatments change your face?
A lot of people’s teeth shorten as they age from years of grinding and wear. By changing the dimensions of your teeth (often lengthening them with veneers), you can:
- Say “goodbye” to that sagged or double chin
- Lift your cheeks
- Eliminate that hollow look
- Fill out fine lines and wrinkles
- Improve your lips
Another problem with aging is losing teeth to decay or gum disease. Replacing a missing tooth will help:
- Preserve bone structure to support your face
- Restore your smile’s health and function
- Keep your surrounding teeth in place
- Boost your confidence to smile more (smiling is a sign of youthfulness)

Anti-aging Dental Intervention
Anti-Aging Smile Rejuvenation | Cosmetic Dental Facelift
Our thoughts on teeth and aging typically begin and end at colour. A white smile is youthful, so we bleach our teeth. But there’s a wide world of so-called anti-aging dental interventions out there. From simple restorations to full mouth reconstructions, dentists can often manipulate the size, shape and arrangement of teeth to subtract years from a face.
To understand how it works, imagine someone with no teeth (“edentulous” in dentist lingo) — your grandpa without his dentures. Without the support of his teeth, his mouth collapses onto itself. The lower portion of his face shrinks. Now imagine grandpa pops in his dentures. His face fills out. He doesn’t look young, but certainly less old.
Grandpa is an extreme example, but this loss of support and subsequent facial “shrinkage” (what the experts call it) doesn’t occur only in the toothless, because teeth gradually change shape throughout adulthood.
The people who really connect to this idea — that your teeth impact how old your face looks — are those who don’t have teeth. When people have a full complement of teeth, they’re not associating loss of tooth structure with the aging they see when they look in the mirror.
Wait, what? My teeth are changing shape?
As we age, our faces lose volume in both the soft tissue (fat and skin) and bone — our eye sockets get larger, the bones of our forehead and jaw recede. Our teeth lose volume, too. The cheeks and lips are supported by the teeth and jaw, so their size and shape have an impact on the overall shape of the face.
Support to soft tissue of the face will decrease with age, and this is how facial collapse occurs slowly with time.
Smiles lose volume following two main patterns. Teeth, especially those in the back, get flatter and shorter because of the regular wear of chewing, which is accelerated by grinding and clenching. Shorter teeth mean a shorter face. The bite is collapsed, the lower jaw is squished into the upper jaw. The result is an aging look (again, picture grandpa).
Second, teeth get pushed inward over time by the jaw muscles. Clenching exacerbates the problem because clenched muscles exert even more inward force on the teeth.
As a result, the smile (or arch) becomes narrower, offering less support to the cheeks and skin. You’ll perceive this narrowing as facial hollowing around the cheeks and a flattening, or curling in, of the lips.
So how can dental work help?
Every set of teeth is unique, but generally Invisalign clear aligners are used to move teeth outward, broadening a smile that has narrowed. Think of the narrow arch being V-shaped, with the tip of the V being in the front, and the teeth then moving to an ideal U shape over time with aligners. Some cases might need other appliances to expand the palate as well.
Tooth height is typically corrected by shape and height restorations. Invisalign can correct the vertical part of the problem, too, if the teeth are tipped forward or back.
No one ever comes in complaining about their face and thinking their teeth are responsible. Some know that their mouth is pretty beat up, and they need a reconstruction of their bite, but they’re not aware of how it can transform facial features.
And how do I know if dental work could help my face?
If you’ve gotten fillers but think the area below your cheekbones is still deflated, see a dentist. Patients will come in with lines around the lips, the kind that form when the lip starts to collapse. Building up the smile provides a framework for the lips that can lessen the amount of filler patients want or need.
Dental work and dermatology complement each other. Dental work won’t do anything for the skin itself, elasticity or fine lines. You still need a dermatologist or plastic surgeon for that. But it can help with the height and projection of the face, which preserves a youthful appearance.
In other words, dental intervention isn’t a face-lift — more like a baby lift. The results will be subtle, but a lot of times subtle is exactly what you want.

Cosmetic Consultation Process for Smile Rejuvenation
Anti-Aging Smile Rejuvenation | Cosmetic Dental Facelift
Communication is an extremely important part of the smile makeover process. At the first makeover consultation, it helps if you describe what you would like to change in as much detail as possible. Bring along pictures of smiles you like, or of how your own smile used to look. Your makeover dentist will have some thoughts to share with you as well because dentists are trained to look at smiles in terms of facial balance. In other words, a dentist will look not only at how the elements of a smile (teeth, lips and gums) relate to each other, but also how they blend in with the face as a whole.
Make a plan.
An important part of planning a smile makeover is a comprehensive dental exam. Cosmetic dentistry offers an amazing array of lifelike tooth restorations and treatments; but first, any conditions in your mouth that may jeopardize a good result must be taken care of. If your teeth are discolored, for example, the reason must be determined. You may have an underlying dental disease that needs to be treated before whitening your teeth; otherwise, the whitening may not last. Likewise, if you often drink red wine or other beverages that stain, you might do better with porcelain veneers than bleaching treatments.
Try it out.
A smile makeover is an investment that is meant to last. That’s why many of the procedures performed are irreversible. So if you are contemplating some changes, it’s a great idea to try them out before you fully commit to them. There are many ways to preview the results: computer imaging, 3-D models, and even placing temporary restorations on your teeth so you can see what the final results will look and feel like in your own mouth. This also allows a fine-tuning of the makeover plan.
A “trial smile” is a great way to eliminate unknowns in the makeover process. But when it’s all done, there’s still one thing you may not be prepared for: how great it feels to flash your new smile to the world!

How Tooth Changes Affect Your Facial Appearance
Anti-Aging Smile Rejuvenation | Cosmetic Dental Facelift
As we grew up, our teeth and facial tissues matured together. And when we reached our optimal youthful appearance, these tissues were in balance. The skin, muscles, and other facial tissues developed precisely to cover the teeth and jaws in a natural way.
But the balance was not to last. As we get older, our teeth naturally get worn down. Sometimes teeth are even lost. And our jawbone also loses mass, naturally too.
When the teeth and jawbones shrink but the skin and other tissues remain as they matured, the balance between soft tissue and supporting hard tissue changes. This creates many effects that we associate with an aged appearance, including:
- Thin, compressed lips
- Lipstick lines (wrinkles emanating out from the mouth)
- Nasolabial folds (parentheses lines around the mouth)
- Collapsed cheeks
- Jowls
- Crease between lips and chin
- Turkey neck
- Poorly defined jawline
Overall, the face develops an appearance of sagging as the balance tips toward having more skin than the facial structure can support. This is described as the concertina effect, and it’s only now being rediscovered by plastic surgeons who realize that their surgical facelift techniques can’t truly rejuvenate your facial appearance.

How a Smile Makeover Can Rejuvenate Your Face
Anti-Aging Smile Rejuvenation | Cosmetic Dental Facelift
If your facial appearance has been impacted by tooth wear, restoring your teeth to their youthful proportions with a smile makeover will dramatically turn back the clock. Balance will be restored between your soft tissue and the hard tissues that support them.
Cheek fat pads that used to hang below your jaw as jowls will be cheeks again. And they’ll be supported better by your teeth so they won’t look sunken anymore. Lips will also be better supported, so they’ll be more voluptuous and you’ll see fewer wrinkles around them. Your jawline will be well defined again, and you’ll have less hanging skin under your chin as it grows more taut around your restored facial proportions.
Since losing your teeth has the most impact on your facial appearance, replacing them can have the most dramatic rejuvenating effect.

Benefits of Rejuvenating with a Smile Makeover
Anti-Aging Smile Rejuvenation | Cosmetic Dental Facelift
Facelift surgery doesn’t work by restoring your facial proportions. Instead, plastic surgeons act as if you had “excess” skin in your face. They cut away this excess and stretch your skin until it’s tight over your reduced bones and teeth. This can significantly alter your facial appearance, and you may not look like yourself anymore. But by working with your teeth, we can rejuvenate your face by restoring your natural proportions. You will look like you, just younger.
In addition, you can avoid problems related to surgical facelifts, such as:
- Pain
- Bleeding
- Bruising
- Scarring
- Long recovery time
- Missed work
- Surgical complications
With a smile makeover, you can get your facial appearance rejuvenated without any of those problems or risks. While a facelift may require up to a month of recovery, you won’t miss more than a day of work from your smile makeover.
Plus, you’ll have a bright, beautiful smile again, and that will also help you look younger.

Who needs a non-surgical facelift?
Anti-Aging Smile Rejuvenation | Cosmetic Dental Facelift
You will no doubt notice that your face has changed shape over the years but may not be aware how this can be linked to what is happening or what has happened to your teeth. When teeth go missing or have grown in ways that have meant they have become too close together or too far apart, then it can make the shape of your face seem unnatural. You may also have noticed other signs of aging too – your teeth may have started to appear longer as your gums recede or they are beginning to look yellower or discoloured.
These are all signs that can point you towards the benefits of dental treatments to influence the shape of your face. Many of these defects can be sorted out with modern dentistry techniques that we offer, that are no longer painful and far less invasive than you might have thought.
Reversing the look of aging can be easier than you think
We will look closely at your teeth and discuss with you what might help to improve your facial shape and reverse some of those changes that have become a bit too obvious. The procedures suggested will depend on your individual circumstances but may be a combination of simple dental techniques.
The most commonly recommended non-surgical facelift techniques which will make a difference to your face shape will be using porcelain veneer, dental implants, bridges or crowns when you have missing teeth or there are noticeable gaps in your teeth.
When teeth have become too overcrowded, we may recommend arch widening with the help of special inserts, a bit like braces. These are far less conspicuous than the sort of appliances you may remember from your childhood, even those made from metal.
At the same time, you may choose to have any noticeable blemishes in the appearance of your teeth like chips or cracks or discoloration repaired or removed with the help of veneers, bonding and teeth whitening gels such as zoom gel.
Give your face the special facelift it deserves today
Here at our office, we take particular pleasure in making people feel happier about the way they feel about themselves.
We believe that everyone’s overall health is improved by a boost to one’s own self-confidence and self-esteem.
When your face appears to be looking too old for your age because of the condition of your teeth, you can be reassured that it can be fixed. Your first step on the road to giving your face a bit of special treatment may be arranging a visit to our office to ask about whether a non-surgical facelift is right for you.

Veneers: a Facelift without Surgery
Anti-Aging Smile Rejuvenation | Cosmetic Dental Facelift
Your smile is one of your most important features, a defining trait that is often the first thing people notice about you. There is an old saying that goes, “You are never fully dressed without a smile.” This rings true, as a great smile can say a lot about someone. From subtle changes to major repairs, your cosmetic dentist can perform a variety of procedures to improve your smile. There are many techniques and options available to treat teeth that are discoloured, chipped, misshapen or missing. You ask, how much of a difference can a nice set of teeth really make? The answer ultimately depends on how you feel, but it is often a huge difference.
Veneers are known as the non-surgical facelift, as they can make someone look younger without going under the knife. Veneers can not only help improve your smile, but the overall look of your face. In other words, veneers can make you appear younger aesthetically.
Veneers are thin shells of ceramic (porcelain) material, which are bonded to the front of your teeth. This procedure requires little or no anaesthesia, and can be the ideal choice for improving the appearance of the front teeth. Veneers are placed to mask discolorations, to brighten teeth and to improve your smile.
While many people consider porcelain veneers to hide stained, broken, chipped, or missing teeth, porcelain veneers are more than just brightening your smile. They provide a much more traditional approach to changing a tooth’s colour, size, or shape. Veneers can mask undesirable defects, such as teeth staining, and damage due to an injury. Generally, veneers will last for many years, and the technique has shown remarkable long-term results – for a beautiful smile that you have always desired.
Porcelain Veneers are becoming more popular, because of their accessibility, affordability, and the fact that they can change someone’s appearance for the better. If you would rather avoid surgery, porcelain veneers may be right for you. A dental exam will help determine if veneers are right for you, as well as if there are any underlying dental conditions that should be treated before veneers are applied.

What’s the Anti-Aging Secret? Cosmetic Dentistry
Anti-Aging Smile Rejuvenation | Cosmetic Dental Facelift
The fountain of youth may not be as elusive as it once was. Cosmetic dentistry has made it possible to achieve a newer, younger-looking you. Skin creams and fresh hairstyles can make an impact on your appearance, but it’s possible to lose years off of your face with one incredibly powerful choice: changing your smile.
Over time, our skin loses its elasticity. Wrinkles and jowls develop, lips thin – it’s a sad state of affairs but one that, the older we get, we’re all susceptible to experiencing. And, of course, our teeth can experience the brutal force of aging as well. Cosmetic dentistry can slow and even reverse a great deal of the signs of aging. And, in many cases, this new you can be achieved in just a few visits to your dentist.
While we all have our own particular complaints about our aging selves, there are some grievances that are incredibly common:
Sagging Cheeks
When you’re missing teeth, especially molars, the foundation of your smile is altered dramatically. And no one wants to feel even older by wearing dentures to compensate for these gaps in your smile. Tooth loss is not an uncommon aging side effect, but that doesn’t mean you have to live with it. Dental implants are the permanent solution to missing teeth. Implants replace the root of your tooth, creating the stability that your smile needs and helping to eliminate sagging skin or jowls in the process.
Stained Teeth
Years of smoking, a fondness for drinking wine or coffee, and simple aging itself are all culprits behind tooth discoloration. One of the fastest ways to look younger and healthier is with professional teeth whitening. In just about an hour, this powerful whitening treatment can spruce up your grin dramatically. If you have more penetrating stains on your teeth, your dentist may recommend porcelain veneers instead.
Broken Teeth
As you age, teeth can chip, crack, and even break. And, if you nurse bad habits like crunching on ice or opening things with your teeth, you’re at even greater risk for broken enamel. Porcelain tooth crowns easily repair chipped or cracked teeth, are designed to blend with your existing teeth for a natural look, and have incredible durability.
Thin Lips
Your body produces less collagen as you age and collagen is the all-important ingredient that gives your lips their volume. You can seek out lip venoms and fillers, but these solutions are temporary and not always very natural-looking. The best option for combating thin lips is customized porcelain veneers which are shaped and extended to flatter your appearance, allowing your lips to sit differently on your teeth and contribute to fuller-looking lips. Bonus: Veneers and lumineers can also fill out the fine lines and wrinkles around your lips and mouth.
Your cosmetic dentistry smile makeover will be customized to your needs so that you end up with a white, straight, attractive new smile. Changing your teeth can not only make you look younger, they can also make you look happier, smarter, wealthier, and healthier. Who doesn’t love that boost of confidence at any age? Consult at our office to determine what methods of anti-aging dentistry are right for you.

Dental Facelift Before and after
Anti-Aging Smile Rejuvenation | Cosmetic Dental Facelift
As we age unfortunate things can start to happen inside our mouths. Gums can recede, teeth wear down, your teeth can start to get a bit wobbly and overall the smile line starts to give an indication that it is not as good looking as good or as youthful as we would like it to be. It’s all starting to look a bit…old and tired. Not so long ago finding an acceptable and affordable solution was not available to everyone. A grin and bear it approach seemed to be the only option and it was the norm to accept the teeth’s ageing process.
We can offer you a helping hand back to that more youthful look. Although not a definitive anti-aging procedure the added benefits of a full Smile Makeover are such that many of the effects of a traditional facelift are achieved, and without the traumas associated with additional surgery.
A set of nice looking teeth can take years off your appearance and leave you looking healthier too. When determining the best results for the patients, we take a great many things into account, and overall facial aesthetics are one of the most important factors. It’s not just the shape of individual teeth or even just how they sit within your mouth that is taken into consideration. Your whole face, front and side profile will be assessed with a view to making sure that the optimum result is achieved.
Say goodbye to those sunken cheeks, the pinched or thinning lip lines or the concaved look that is sometimes inflicted upon us as we advance in years. With a relatively few tweaks and additions in terms of style, shape, colour, length and positioning of the teeth, your new smile can wipe years from your face. All this is achieved during the comprehensive Dental Facelift procedure. For full details and an explanation of the process please do not hesitate to contact a member of our team.
