What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign treatment involves wearing clear, plastic aligners. Because they are made of clear plastic, the aligners are practically invisible and most people will not even realize that you are wearing them. They are custom made for you so they will fit comfortably in your mouth. Another perk of choosing this type of treatment is that the aligners are removable so there are no food and drink restrictions and you can take them out to brush and your floss of your teeth, making the whole process a lot easier.
How Does It Work?
Invisalign works differently than traditional metal braces. You get a new set of aligners every couple of weeks and each set of focusing on different teeth. They use the right amount of pressure to shift your teeth gradually. Your orthodontist will map out a custom treatment plan using specialized technology.

What Can You Expect from the Treatment Process?
The first thing you should do is schedule a free consultation with an orthodontist who is an Invisalign provider. Remember you don’t need to go with the first orthodontist you consult with. Do your research and get evaluated by at least a few doctors before making your final choice. You want someone who has the skill and experienced needed to help you, but you also want it to be someone who really cares about their patients.
At that first consultation will use a scanning system to make 3D images of your teeth which the orthodontist will use to map out a treatment plan for you. They will discuss with you how your teeth need to move to give you a straighter smile and how long you should expect your treatment to be.
Once your first set of aligners have been made, you will have to come back to the office to get them fitted on. You will need to wear them 20 to 22 hours a day, taking them out when you eat and brush and floss your teeth.
The aligners themselves are also easy to take care of. You can simply use your toothbrush to brush them and then rinse them out in lukewarm water or you can ask your orthodontist about an Invisalign cleaning kit.
The great thing about wearing Invisalign aligners instead of metal braces is that you don’t have to worry about the braces damaging your mouth when you are playing sports. Because they are removable, you just need to take them off before any of your games or practices. And if you are required to wear a sports mouthguard for any of your teams, you can simply take the aligners off before putting in the mouthguard. You won’t have to worry about it not fitting properly.
