How do porcelain veneers work? Treatment Process
The porcelain veneer procedure takes place over at least two-four office visits.
FIRST APPOINTMENT. TREATMENT PLANNING/SMILE DESIGN
The first part of any dental procedure is the initial consultation and examination so that the dentist can get a feel for what you want and understand your needs and concerns. We explain the treatment procedure to you including an accurate guide to the likely costs of your treatment.
During this first appointment, we will discuss your expectations, and help you decide if veneers are best suited for your needs. We invests time in the consultation process to better ensure that all of our cosmetic patients know what to expect and are satisfied with the final outcome of the procedure. Since porcelain veneers are custom-made, we also focuses on clear doctor-patient communication to achieve the aesthetic results each patient desires. Dr. Castro believes porcelain veneers are an investment that can last decades, and makes every effort to make sure our patients feel comfortable and confident in their decision to proceed with the treatment.
SECOND APPOINTMENT. PREPARATION
During this visit, your teeth will be prepared for the veneers. This may consist of simply roughening, reshape and prepare the front surfaces of your teeth so that they can accomadate the veneers or, in cases where the veneers are used to correct structural issues such as crowding, the teeth may be shaped more extensively in preparation. In certain cases, you may not need any preparation at all.
Once your teeth are prepared, a precise impression will be taken of your teeth. This will be used to fabricate your personal porcelain veneers so they fit securely to the tooth surface, whilst you are waiting for your veneers to be fabricated we may be fitted with some temporary veneers to protect your prepared teeth. In cases where preparation is minimal or no preparation at all, you may not need a temporary veneers.
THIRD APPOINTMENT. PREVIEW
Once we received your custom made porcelain veneers from our Ceramist, we will call you for your inspection or preview. This will give you chance to make sure you are happy with everything cosmetic on your Veneers. IF you are happy with everything, we will book you on the next visit for cementation. IF there is something you wanted it refine or adjusted on your veneer, we will discuss it or may need to return it back to the lab. We won't cement your Veneers unless you are absulotely happy and satisfied with everything.
FOURTH APPOINTMENT. BONDING / CEMENTING
In the final stage of the process,we will first remove your temporary veneers, if you have, and disinfect the teeth before the bonding process begins. We will reassess by doing a trial fitting to finally view the overall look of your Veneers. We will show it to you for final preview and approval.
After making sure the permanent veneers fit comfortably and with precision, we will then cement the veneers onto the front side of each tooth. The bonding material is designed to be incredibly durable, which should yield very long-lasting results for the veneers. In fact, with proper care, many patients enjoy their veneers for decades. Once Dr. Castro has affixed the veneers to your teeth and given them a final polish, the treatment process is complete.
